Job Summary

Under the direction of the Server Administrator, the Network Analyst is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, configuration, and supporting the County’s computer network, switches, routers, network devices, security services, Wi-Fi platforms, PCs, and other peripheral equipment as needed. The Network Analyst is a customer service position that responds to the County’s personnel and user agency departments.  The Network Analyst also serves as a liaison with vendor technical services personnel to resolve equipment, access, and configuration issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide network services such as installing, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting routers, switches, PCs, servers, and WAPs. Ensure proper operation of the network equipment and network policies.
  • Provide network security services such as configuring firewalls, VPN tunnels, and anti-virus software.
  • Maintains network security to help prevent infection by externally or internally originated viruses and unauthorized system entry to safeguard information and systems.
  • Maintain and operate network monitoring tools to ensure critical systems are online and healthy.  Must respond to SMS/Email notifications as required.
  • Manage, maintain, and assign IP addressing (IPAM) in accordance with network schema, policies, and industry best practices.
  • Conduct network backup, restore, and recovery routines including disaster recovery planning.
  • Create and maintain network documentation, including Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer 3 network diagrams and rack elevation drawings, to support adds, moves, changes, and ongoing infrastructure accuracy, using standard diagramming tools (e.g., Visio).
  • Provide peripheral software and hardware support as required to include printers, plotters, and other miscellaneous network and standalone devices.
  • Participate in various projects and project work. Project work may include identifying, recommending, design, and specifying equipment. Project timelines and deliverables will require adherence to the extent the Analyst has responsibilities.
  • Use of maintenance ticketing and tracking system to track and close issues submitted by users. Maintains accurate reports of malfunctions; provides referrals to the Server Administrator when problems are beyond the abilities of the Analyst.
  • Provide analysis on network performance and make recommendations based on certain performance analytics.
  • Must be able to perform physical installation tasks such as mounting equipment, installing cable, connectors, and be able to use hand tools, specialized industry tools, and small power tools.
  • Communicates technical subject matter with non-technical users and therefore must communicate clearly in understandable terms. It’s critical that these verbal communications are respectful, helpful, and encourage clear user understanding.
  • Communicates complex material through email, reports, and other written platforms. These communications must be clear, concise, and unambiguous.
  • In case of emergency or crisis situation (hurricane, flood, etc.) position is required to respond/perform emergency and recovery duties as assigned by the County Manager or designee.
  • During an emergency or crisis situation, this position may be required to be present at the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) to provide assistance while activated.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and progressively responsible experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • 3 years of field experience required.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Any combination of education and experience may be substituted, so long as it provides the desired skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Working Environment and Physical Demands

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm, however some after-hours work will be required depending on project load, or outage level.
  • Work is typically done in office space, in electronic equipment rooms with multiple fans and noisy equipment operating.
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal and read from a monitor for an extended period of time.
  • The employee must reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must observe a computer display screen under low lighting conditions.
  • Work in a confined environment under high stress.
  • Must be willing to carry a cell phone for work related business.
  • Work duties may require overnight out-of-town or out-of-state travel to include training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and holding objects weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Dexterity of hands, wrists and fingers to operate standard office equipment, test equipment, hand tools, small power tools, controlling and handling various types of cabling, computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Sitting, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching for extended periods of time.
  • Climbing and use of ladders required occasionally. Work will require ladder climbing, working in recessed flooring, working above ceiling tiles, working with energized circuits, and carrying and using test equipment.
  • Senses used on a constant basis are hearing and adequate vision to see cables, colors, connection, diagnostic messages, evaluate equipment operation, read e-mail, drawings and spreadsheet software.
  • Exposures may include electricity, radio frequency energy, noise, smells, machinery, and seasonal temperature extremes. Field work, site work, outside work, working in heat and cold environments during requisite weather months will be required.
  • Must be able to drive a vehicle.
