SUMMARY: The FSQA Supervisor leads the Food Safety and Quality Assurance team on the PM shift and partners closely with Operations to ensure alignment of food safety and quality goals. This role is responsible for implementing, training, verifying, and communicating FSQA programs—including GMPs, SQF, SSOPs, HACCP, and QA protocols—while ensuring compliance with USDA requirements.
The FSQA Supervisor serves as a key liaison between FSQA staff, Operations, and USDA personnel, supports customer complaint investigations, assists with third‑party audit preparation, and ensures adequate FSQA staffing, coverage, and competency to meet regulatory and operational needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESÂ The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
- TEAM LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT – Leads and develops the FSQA team to ensure alignment with company standards and regulatory requirements. Coaches and educates team members on products, food safety practices, and FSQA policies while reinforcing ownership, accountability, and consistent execution.

- COMMUNICATION – Serves as a primary point of contact for FSQA‑related inquiries including product specifications, regulatory requirements, foreign material investigations, pre‑shipment review, and other quality issues. Provides technical guidance to plant personnel and conducts regular departmental meetings to communicate priorities and reinforce procedures.

- REGULATORY COMPLIANCE – Acts as a facility contact for USDA personnel and supports daily interactions related to food safety programs, policies, and plant conditions. Guides FSQA staff and plant personnel to ensure compliance with USDA requirements and assists with investigation and resolution of non‑compliance issues.

- POLICIES & PROCEDURES – Implements and trains employees on FSQA programs including HACCP, GMPs, SQF, SSOPs, QA protocols, and food safety programs. Supports FSQA components of orientation and assists with periodic review and updates of procedures as needed.

- ELECTRONIC SOFTWARE – Leads training, use, and first‑level troubleshooting of electronic audit and documentation systems. Assists with system configuration, maintenance, and ongoing audit readiness.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Â
- Directly supervises Quality Technicians and FSQA Coordinator(s), overseeing daily activities including scheduling, task assignments, auditing performance, and documentation completion.
- Provides ongoing coaching, guidance, and corrective feedback to support employee development and consistent execution of FSQA standards.
- Completes annual performance evaluations, communicates performance expectations, recognizes accomplishments, and proactively addresses performance concerns.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Â
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in food safety, quality, or regulatory roles.
- Experience in a food manufacturing or production environment required; pork, meat, or bacon processing experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop employees in a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels of the organization.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:Â
Must be able to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety files, regulations, specifications, and technical documentation. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively engage, present, and communicate with the team and respond to questions from management. Proficient in basic office equipment: email, Word and Excel.

REASONING ABILITY:Â
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Using this information provided this role must apply USDA regulations, and make sound judgments regarding product disposition, including hold and release decisions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Â
Must be able to efficiently and effectively move to all areas of production. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to discern color. Standing, stooping, walking, bending, and climbing are all expected physical abilities, with or without accommodations. Lift 50 lbs. occasionally.Â

WORK ENVIRONMENT:Â
While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to wet, cold, and/or humid conditions in both inside and outside environments. Noise levels typically require OSHA‑mandated hearing protection.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:Â
The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management.

BACKUP: If the FSQA Supervisor is unable to perform his/her job function, another FSQA Supervisor will step in.
