Since its founding in 1985, Queen of Peace Center (QOPC) has been providing family-centered behavioral healthcare for women, children, and families. As a member of the Federation of Catholic Charities, we serve the metropolitan and surrounding St. Louis area through four core programs: prevention, education, treatment, and housing. 

POSITION SUMMARY

This position will assist those in the St. Louis City communities who are/were impacted by disaster, most recently the tornado on May 16, 2025. As a Peer Support Specialist on the CCP Project, you will have the opportunity to work on a community collaboration with DMH and other agencies in the City of St. Louis. Potential CCP Peer Specialists should be prepared to outreach community in the field, provide service delivery to the impacted client population, complete data entry requirements in a timely manner, and manage agency-specific tasks and responsibilities. This is a full-time grant funded position. Must possess Missouri Peer Specialist certification at time of hire or within 60 days of hire. 

OVERVIEW AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow daily outreach schedule/plan as provided by DMH or Team Lead
  • Works with individuals, families, and groups to provide outreach, emotional support, individual and group crisis counseling, public education, and referrals when needed.
  • Represents the program and networks with other agencies and partners to ensure needs of survivors are met.
  • Provides presentations for community groups on disaster reactions, coping skills, stress management, and the disaster response program when requested.
  • Meet with Program Management regularly to debrief from on-call shifts, discuss cases and engagement strategies, and ensure proper form completion.
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess Missouri Peer Specialist certification at time of hire or within 60 days of hire.
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Previous lived experience with mental health/substance use. Must be in recovery for a minimum of 2 full years.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED 

  • Must have a reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license and motor vehicle insurance.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check or request an exception to the findings.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must work well in a team environment, independently and willing to be flexible.
  • Must be able to communicate well with others using clear verbal expression and thoughtful listening skills.
  • Must remain flexible and adapt to workplace changes as needed.
  • Must be comfortable working with diverse populations in community-based setting, including in neighborhood, community centers, drop-in centers, and be committed to providing service delivery
  • Must have good people-skills and easily build rapport with people in community and co-workers.
  • Must possess good time management skills to ensure all responsibilities are completed and maintained.
  • Basic computer skills including familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
