The Salvation Army Midland Division Midtown Service and Treatment Center is looking a Community Support Worker & Job Training Manager. This individual will Provide case management services to individuals with a special emphasis on employment, health, housing, and community resources that will assist stabilization of clients in a recovery lifestyle in the community.  

 

This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position, with a starting salary of 20.00 per hour.

Essential Functions

  1. Professionally complete case management functions that include but are not limited to intake, assessments, treatment planning, on-going individual sessions to monitor progress and facilitate problem-solving, educating clients regarding resources, and consulting/coordinating with other members of the integrated team and community resources.
  2. Make referrals to community resources based on client goals, establishing stability.
  3. Contact clients who have unexcused absence from the program in order to re-engage them and promote recovery efforts.
  4. Arranging and referring for services and resources, and when necessary, advocating to obtain the services and quality of services to which the client is entitled.
  5. Monitoring service delivery by providers external to the program and ensuring communication and coordination of services.
  6. Locating and coordinating services and resource acquisition
  7. Provide experiential training in life skills and resource acquisition
  8. Provide information and education to clients in accordance with their treatment plan
  9. Planning for relapse prevention and monitoring of needed on-going services.
  10. Conduct outreach visits to clients residing in shelters and provide transportation for housing search activities.
  11. Advocate on behalf of clients seeking housing assistance.
  12. Actively assist clients in addressing outstanding rent and or utility bills that place clients at-risk of becoming homeless or that could serve as barriers to clients securing housing.
  13. Provide information on affordable housing transitional and or permanent supportive housing options to clients.
  14. Assist clients in obtaining and/or remaining in permanent or transitional housing. Help clients in the use of community resources.
  15. Develop good working relationships with landlords, St. Louis Housing Authority, and with all appropriate housing affiliations.
  16. Identify and recruit new landlords to expand the network of housing providers receptive to homeless applicants.
  17. Conduct home visits to facilitate client stabilization in housing as needed.
  18. Provide regular training sessions to clients, regarding information on employment readiness, resumes, interviewing, networking, housing opportunities, home care techniques, tenant responsibilities, and budgeting.
  19. Conduct job readiness assessments and sessions with clients.
  20. Assist clients with application and resume preparation.
  21. Assist clients with interview preparation.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in human social work, psychology, nursing, or a closely   related area plus one year of work experience is required. Experience working with individuals recovering from substance abuse is a plus. Combination of education and work experience will be considered.  Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or Missouri Associate Alcohol & Drug Counselor (MAADC I or II (a plus. If not currently holding a credential through MSAPCB, application required within first 90 days of employment.  Requires some computer word processing, spreadsheet, and email experience.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; understanding of the homeless and chemically dependent.  CPR/First Aid certification and annual TB test required. Must be a team player, a self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision. Must demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment. 

Physical and Working Conditions  

Must be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment to include using a computer, answering phones, etc.  Most work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment.  There will be times the individual is frequently in and out of vehicles.
