Job Summary:

The Director of Safety provides executive-level leadership and technical expertise to drive the company's safety vision and culture. This role is responsible for the strategic development and enforcement of safety programs, ensuring all field operations, training initiatives, and incident prevention strategies aligning with corporate objectives and exceeding regulatory standards.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead the integration of safety and environmental stewardship into the core of daily operations, fostering a proactive, zero-harm culture.
  • Govern site-wide adherence to all federal (OSHA/EPA), state, local, and client-specific regulations, ensuring the company remains at the forefront of compliance.
  • Provide expert technical counsel and safety leadership to executive management and project teams to align safety goals with business objectives.
  • Design, implement, and audit corporate safety policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure they evolve with industry best practices.
  • Architect a comprehensive safety training curriculum and matrix, ensuring a highly skilled workforce capable of identifying and mitigating complex hazards.
  • Direct all safety and environmental field operations and provide high-level management to field safety representatives across all project sites.
  • Orchestrate project startup safety protocols, including medical readiness (PFTs), substance abuse screening, and site-specific behavioral safety programs.
  • Oversee the incident investigation program, utilizing root-cause analysis to identify systemic trends and implement corrective actions.
  • Partner with legal and HR to manage Workers' Compensation claims and provide technical expertise for legal defense related to workplace incidents.
  • Serve as a thought leader on the Corporate Safety Committee and maintain a robust network of external professional resources to benchmark company performance against industry peers and regulatory trends.

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety related field, or equivalent technical training/experience (Required)
    • 15+ years of industrial/construction safety experience in leu of a degree
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification or Safety Management Professional (SMP) Certification (Required)

Experience:

  • 12+ years of leadership experience
  • 12-15 years of Oil, Gas, and Chemical industrial construction safety experience (Required)
  • Proven experience supervising a team of safety professionals and overseeing safety performance across multiple project locations. (Required)
  • Experience leading safety investigations, audits, and training programs (Required)
  • Experience supporting Workers' Compensation and liability claim processes (Required)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Maintain a deep, current knowledge of OSHA standards, local building codes, and industry best practices to serve as a reliable technical resource.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and safety-related software tools. (Required)
  • Ability to lead safety programs and develop training (Required)
  • Ability to lead field safety operations and coach safety professionals.
  • Strong communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills. (Required)
  • TWIC may be required based on project assignment (Preferred)
  • Valid state-issued driver's license (Required).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with leadership, employees, customers, subcontractors, and vendors (Required)
