Summary: 

The Food Pantry Worker supports the daily operations of People’s Community Action Corporation Food Pantry and Food Drives.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares food bags with and for clients and families.
  • Helps registers pantry clients who meet eligibility requirements.
  • Sorts and stocks food items in the pantry, coolers, freezers, and office.
  • Inspects food items to ensure quality and freshness.
  • Keeps pantry, warehouse, and reception area clean and neat.
  • Serves  to help families feel supported and follow pantry guidelines.
  • Assists with the removal of trash and recycling.
  • Directs family client concerns to the appropriate team member.
  • Helps provides clients with additional community resources as needed.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Sorting & Stocking: Experience with stocking food and general goods, lifting and placing food donations, managing inventory, and restocking shelves.
  • Food Packing & Distribution: Preparing food boxes or bags and assisting with client customer service sometimes directly in food pantry or with drive-thru models.
  • Operations & Maintenance: Maintaining cleanliness, breaking down boxes, and ensuring proper food handling and storage. Pulling trash and cleaning as needed
  • Client Interaction: Working with families providing assistance with dignity and grace, and sometimes providing administrative or clerical support. 

Work Environment and Requirements:

  • Physical Demands: Jobs often require lifting, standing for periods, and working in PCAC inside and outside, cooler, or freezer environments. Able to help pick up at least a hundred pounds of food
  • Safety Protocols: Adherence to safety measures is crucial, particularly during high-demand periods.
  • Other Duties: May require some cleaning background to help staff with the environment, including collecting trash, dusting floors to make things presentable
  • Assembles community resources to share with pantry clients
  • Demonstrates teamwork and support of the PCAC mission and values
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned
  • Complies with all company policies and standards
