JOB SUMMARY

The Disaster Recovery Manager leads the planning, coordination, and execution of disaster recovery strategies for critical university systems. This position focuses on failover and recovery operations within Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) using Zerto and works closely with our Managed Service Provider (MSP) to ensure all critical applications have tested and up-to-date disaster recovery plans.   

 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees disaster recovery planning and execution for critical applications hosted in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)

  • Manages and maintains Zerto-based replication and failover configurations

  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders and our MSP to develop, document, and maintain DR plans for all mission-critical systems

  • Coordinates and leads regular disaster recovery testing exercises, ensuring recovery objectives (RTO/RPO) are met

  • Identifies gaps in disaster recovery coverage and works with application owners to close them

  • Maintains documentation of disaster recovery procedures, test results, and recovery metrics

  • Provides reporting and updates to leadership on disaster recovery readiness and risk posture

  • Participates in incident response and business continuity planning as needed

  • Performs other duties as assigned 

  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, especially Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS, or Azure

  • Familiarity with VMware virtualization technologies

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Willingness to handle complex challenges

  • Ability to coordinate across technical and non-technical teams

  • Ability to work effectively with other senior management

  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's degree

  • Three or more years of experience in disaster recovery, business continuity, or IT infrastructure roles

  • Hands-on experience with Zerto or similar replication/failover technologies

  • ​Experience working with or managing third-party service providers

  • Experience with both Linux and Windows Server operating systems

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in higher education or other mission-driven environments

  • Knowledge of ITIL, NIST, or ISO 22301 frameworks

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CBCP, ITIL, Zerto Certified Professional)
