Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking Optical Sensor Integration Engineers (Level 5) to join the Optical Sensor Integrated Product Team (IPT) to serve as a Principal Engineer for optical sensor development on Air Proprietary Program, in Berkeley, MO.

As a member of the EO/IR IPT for a major proprietary program, you will provide technical leadership and drive technical execution in the development of a new optical sensor system. You will be a primary technical interface to the program leadership, the optical sensor supplier, and the customer. Additionally, you can expect to drive compliance with program and company processes as well as recommend areas for process improvement.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Drives technical excellence throughout all Optical Sensor development activities
  • Provides technical leadership and ensures common practices across programs
  • Serves as the primary technical interface with the EO/IR Supplier
  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes. Works closely with program managers, program chief engineers and other Boeing Teams to
  • Ensure mission success and prompt resolution of anomalies
  • Provides mentoring and coaching to Optical Sensor Engineers
  • Performs Technical Lead Engineer (TLE) functions for assigned mentees
  • Drives best practices to meet programs' cost, schedule, quality and technical objectives
  • Captures lessons learned and best practices for implementation on future programs
  • Resolves complex problems impacting completion of program milestones
  • Coordinates with Boeing Leadership and Customer Leadership on Technical Issues and Strategy

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • (Level 5) 14+ years of work related engineering experience with a Bachelor’s or 12+ years of work related engineering experience with a Master’s or 9+ years of work related engineering experience with a PhD

Education:

Level 5: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
