Job Description:

Title: Youth Advocate - YouthBuild

Classification: Non-Exempt


Scope of Position:

Assess youth participants (aged 16-24) enrolled in the YouthBuild program and determine the most appropriate path to employment. Provide support and assistance in all areas related to gaining and/or retaining employment and career advancement.


Essential Functions:

路 Provide individualized assessment of work, family and personal development needs and opportunities

路 Determine eligibility and accurately complete required documentation for enrollment

路 Build professional one-on-one working relationships with customers to assist in eliminating challenges that are hindrances to obtaining and retaining employment

路 Provide referrals to appropriate SLATE services, business services unit, online learning centers and community service or social service agencies when needed

路 Convince customers to participate in and follow through with planned activities as outlined in contract with funding agency

路 Oversee customer activities and assist with workshop schedules

路 Track all customer activities including SLATE services, ITAs, and other initiatives

路 Create solutions to customer attendance problems

路 Maintain organized database of customers and keep detailed documentation of all contacts

路 Maintain accurate individual case files for each registered customer, ensuring each contain appropriate eligibility documents

路 Guide jobseekers through preparation of individual employment plans based on their specific occupational goals

路 Maintain customer files as specified by contractor

路 Share information with appropriate staff and/or funding agencies

路 Provide consistent and comprehensive case management follow-up and retention services, ensuring that post-placement contacts are made as required by specific contract, accommodating customer work schedules

路 Document all participant contacts and activities in case progress notes

路 Assist in the preparation of project reports as needed

路 Ensure that positive outcomes and goals are met as required by contract

路 Work with the team on implementing processes that increase customer engagement

路 Conduct program orientations

路 Other opportunities as available


Education and Experience Requirements:

路 Career counseling experience

路 Ability to prioritize tasks and document visits and contacts

路 Demonstrated telephone, computer and written communication skills

路 Ability to maintain flexibility as needs of contract or contractor required

路 Bachelor鈥檚 degree or Associate鈥檚 degree, and three years of work experience in case management/human services or related experience

路 Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

路 Must have a valid driver鈥檚 license
