The Regional Communications Manager plays a key role in connecting people to the American Red Cross mission and services across the region. Through strategic communications, media relations, digital engagement and storytelling, this position helps advance regional priorities, increase public understanding and engagement, and ensure communities know how to access Red Cross support when it matters most. The role supports all Lines of Service and functional areas through integrated, people-centered communications.Ā

Working closely with program and functional leaders across the organization, the Regional Communications Manager provides communications and marketing support while also supporting,Ā developingĀ and guiding volunteers. This role spans both ongoing (āblue skyā) communications and disaster public affairs, requiring sound judgment,Ā collaborationĀ and calm decision-making in fast-moving, emotionally complex environments.Ā
All duties are performed in a manner consistent with the Fundamental Principles of the American Red Cross, and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.Ā ThisĀ role is not eligible for relocationĀ assistance.Ā

This hybrid position is based out of the Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN metro area and requires a willingness to travel throughout the region and as assigned.

1. Media RelationsĀ
Work with regional communications director, regional executive, executiveĀ directorĀ and others to execute determined media relations strategy, includingĀ maintainingĀ excellent media contact relationships, news release writing and distributions, pitching,Ā etc.Ā Ā Respond to local media inquiries byĀ arrangingĀ interviewsĀ and providing Red Cross-approved informationĀ and mission-related storiesĀ with sound judgment and timeliness.Ā Serve as a Red Cross spokesperson, train and prepare staff and volunteer spokespersons, review support requests, and develop and execute an effective communications strategy.Ā

Ā 2. Public Affairs and Crisis CommunicationsĀ Support regional, divisional, and potentially national disaster public affairs activities.Ā ProvideĀ training, development, and coordination of disaster public affairs volunteers.Ā Contribute to crisis communications planning, messaging, and execution during emergencies.Ā May beĀ requiredĀ to deploy in person orĀ virtually toĀ support disaster response operations outside the home region.āÆĀ

Social EngagementĀ Implement a regional social media engagement strategy aligned with enterprise-wide strategy and regional priorities.Ā Develop creative, engaging, platform- and audience-specific content that encourages participation, strengthens community partnerships, and furthers the mission.Ā Monitor and respond to social media activity asĀ appropriate, escalating issues when necessary.āÆĀ

4.Ā Marketing SupportĀ Ā SupportĀ integrated marketing andĀ programĀ campaigns across all Lines of Service and functional support departments.Ā Collaborate with Development, Marketing, and Regional Financial Development partners to deliver clear, engaging communications that motivate people to give, get involved, and take meaningful action.Ā Encourage staff to beĀ trainedĀ onĀ and use approved brand tools and resources.āÆĀ Ā
5. Internal CommunicationsĀ
Support development and execution of strategic and change-management communications.Ā
Ā 6. Volunteer EngagementĀ
Support the Regional Communications Director in building, engaging,Ā trainingĀ andĀ supervisingĀ a regionalĀ communications and disaster public affairs volunteer team.Ā Ā

ScopeĀ
Individual contributor role requiring fullĀ proficiencyĀ in applying subject matter knowledgeĀ acquiredĀ through several years of experience. Works independently and mayĀ instruct orĀ coach other professionals.Ā

PAYĀ INFORMATION:Ā
The salary range for this position is: $62,960-$69,256.
Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used toĀ determineĀ your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience youĀ haveĀ and comparison to other employees already in this role.Ā

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):āÆĀ
Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field required.
Experience: Minimum 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
Management Experience: N/A
Skills & Abilities: Good understanding of role and industry, apply specialized knowledge. Analyze possible solutions using standard procedures. Outstanding oral and written communication skills required, with proven knowledge of AP Style. Demonstrate effective critical thinking and strategic planning. Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills. Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with Cision/TrendKite or other media monitoring software. Demonstrated experience managing professional social media platforms for an organization is required. Must be comfortable using website content management systems and other marketing tools. Willingness to serve as a media spokesperson required; experience as a spokesperson preferred. Strong teamwork and collaboration required. Ability to work on a team
Travel: May require 10% - 25% travel.
