LOCATION: History Center - 345 W Kellogg Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55102

 

COMPENSATION: Typical starting range $59,092.80 - $63,648.00 annually


STATUS & HOURS: This is a full-time, regular (approximately 2080 annual hours) position. Hours worked are standard business hours, Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM, with the option to work hybrid at least 2 days per week in the office and with occasional coverage needed for media interviews on nights, weekends, or early evenings.

DESCRIPTION:  This position exists to create and implement communications strategies and generate positive media coverage of MNHS that will drive attendance at its sites, museums, and programs, generate revenue through ticket and other sales, and build awareness of the depth and breadth of all MNHS offerings. The Communications Coordinator serves as a project manager for a portfolio of internal account assignments, working with the assigned account manager to deliver marketing and communications services to the client. This position interacts with internal teams, clients, freelancers, and vendors to keep projects on track and moving forward per each project’s defined scope and marketing communications best practices.


SUMMARY OF WORK:  1) Support the planning, management, and execution of account work and projects related to assigned client accounts; 2) Implement and manage media relations strategies statewide to promote MNHS programs and events, educational offerings, and institutional messaging; 3) Create a variety of content media with an understanding of MNHS's various target audiences and deliver compelling content that is on-brand and is optimized for the medium it is being delivered in; 4) Develop, write, and edit communications and organizational culture narratives for organization-wide channels, including live meetings, email, social sharing through MNHS’s intranet and digital platforms, FAQs, learning and development, and videos. Distill complex subjects into coherent and easy-to-understand language; and 5) Support overall department objectives.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field.

  • Three years’ communications and /or media relations-related experience

  • Three years’ experience writing and editing organizational communication (i.e., newsletters, brochures, web content, etc.)

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, written, and interviewing skills.

  • Proficient in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) or Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, & PPT)

  • Experience with some, or all, of these: Adobe Creative Suite, Google Analytics, search engine optimization, email marketing, video production, and website content management systems.

  • Flexible and helpful in solving problems as part of a team.

  • Able to approach others with a different background in a tactful, respectful manner while exhibiting cultural sensitivity.

  • Exhibit a positive attitude and the ability to work independently on projects, yet supportive of team dynamics and needs when necessary.

  • Apply innovative thinking and creativity to projects and meet challenges with resourcefulness

  • PC competent with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat), and familiar with project management software (e.g., Trello, Teamwork, Smartsheet, Basecamp, etc.).

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Ability and willingness to travel.


DEMONSTRATED SKILLS IN OR KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Exceptional copywriting, editing, and proofreading skills, as well as the ability to adopt the style, tone, and voice of MNHS. Demonstrated story selection skill.

  • Use of analysis and an inquisitive mindset using data to optimize marketing communications strategies and tactics.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience and familiarity with HubSpot (or other similar marketing software).

  • Proficient in Adobe InDesign.

  • Practice resourcefulness and initiative, moving forward the MNHS message and Mission.
