The Opportunity  Â
The Lead AI Cybersecurity Engineer is responsible for developing the strategies, controls, and policies that will protect Abbott’s use of AI across the enterprise and products. The strategist then oversees and supports the execution of those strategies to ensure the ongoing safe and responsible application of AI technologies across Abbott.
The Lead AI Cybersecurity Engineer will be responsible for the secure use of AI across Abbott, to include:
- Securing the AI use cases built by Abbott.
- Secure the use of AI within Abbott.
- Identify opportunities and build solutions to improve Abbott’s cybersecurity program through AI and automation.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Develop policies, procedures, and controls to protect AI use cases across their full lifecycle.
- Advise on the safe, secure, and responsible integration of AI into medical devices that improve people’s lives.
- Use threat modeling and secure design principles to architect the security controls for Abbott-developed AI implementations.
- Serve as a subject matter expert advising on AI cybersecurity topics across Abbott. Evangelize and teach best practices.
- Represent Abbott cybersecurity in internal forums and industry groups related to AI.
- Manage Abbott’s AI cybersecurity governance program and contribute directly where needed.
- Stay abreast of the evolving state of the art of AI security and ensure Abbott’s defenses adapt as the technology changes.
- Monitor developments in vendor capabilities, author solution agnostic requirements for AI security, evaluate vendor offerings against Abbott needs, and make recommendations for products and services when appropriate.
- Author the policies and controls to ensure that when Abbott employees use AI, they do so in a way that protects Abbott data and systems.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
Required skills
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience is required.
- 8-10 years Secure design and implementation experience with 2-5 years focused on AI security.
- Deep expertise in AI technologies and their unique security considerations.
- Experience in developing and documenting strategic roadmaps for cybersecurity solutions, particularly in securing AI.
- Ability to explain, address, and advocate for cybersecurity requirements and policies in cross-functional teams.
- Ability to translate technical AI security concepts into business-friendly language.
- Strong soft skills, with the ability to build consensus and secure buy-in from stakeholders across business units and functions.
Preferred Skills
- Master’s Degree (or equivalent)
- Certifications, degrees, or equivalent experience related to AI and/or cybersecurity
- Other advanced information security certifications (CISSP, CISM, relevant SANS certifications)
- Experience presenting to executive audiences
- Experience in the medical device or life sciences industries
- Experience conducting risks assessments
- Experience in Threat modeling
