Basic Function: Â Tests and inspects optical fiber and sub-cables at various stages during the production process and evaluates data to determine and maintain the quality and reliability of products by performing the following job responsibilities:

Performs specific job responsibilities: Â
- Selects optical fiber and sub-cables to be tested based on priorities set by production.
- Strips optical fiber and sub-cables and uses OTDR testing equipment to test for length, breaks and attenuation.
- Observes, measures, and inspects optical fiber and sub-cables for qualities such as wall thickness, diameter, concentricity, print, and color as required per the shop order.
- Evaluates data to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
- Completes all inspection paperwork specific to this job function.Â

Minimum Qualifications Required:
Education & Experience: Â High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and six months related experience and/or training preferred.
Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge: Â Ability to set-up, run, and monitor test equipment in a production environment. Demonstrated ability to use tools and measuring devices properly. Â Ability to read and follow basic instructions, ability to understand and implement quality procedures. Math and handwriting skills required and the ability to correctly complete all documentation. Â Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision. Â Pays close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems.
Working Conditions: Â While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. Â Significant inspecting activities require manual dexterity using hands to finger, handle, or feel. Â The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50lbs. This job requires sight sufficient for significant reading and computer usage. Â Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision. Â This work also requires an individual with hearing sufficient for communication with coworkers. Â The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Â The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles. The regular schedule for this position is 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Friday - Sunday with some schedule flexibility required; overtime is also available.
