Job DetailsLevel: ExperiencedJob Location: PKM Steel Service, Inc. - Salina, KS 67401Position Type: Full TimeJob Category: Manufacturing  SUMMARY: Perform all duties of estimating function in compliance with contract/customer specifications, company policies and/or procedures conforming to American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) standards.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Audit and verify drawings received by estimating department. Perform hands-on estimating and check other estimator’s work as needed. Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary information. Prepare and submit accurate bids to obtain profitable contracts. Utilize current costing methods to prepare bids on selected work that meets company objectives. Monitor successful bids and provide status reports to management as needed. Keep abreast of trends and developments in construction business that could affect company’s ongoing operations. Interact with detailing, production, fabrication and project management to identify capacities and establish schedules. Work closely with project management and production to identify and meet project needs effectively and in a timely manner. Assist in development of the estimating department by increasing own skills, training co-workers and improving the overall productivity of the area. Effectively communicate changes in priorities or completion dates due to unscheduled projects of higher priority or urgency. Establish, communicate and monitor personal and departmental performance and improvement goals in support of organizational objectives. Communicate results to Supervisor. Encourage and promote continuous personal development, skill attainment and optimal performance for self and others. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 1 year combined experience in structural steel engineering, design, fabrication, sales, marketing and/or all phases of fabrication and erection.   KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Comprehensive knowledge of fabrication and production processes and their associated costs. Working knowledge of applicable codes and specifications. Accurate knowledge, understanding and efficient use of Microsoft Office and other applicable software. Ability to understand and interpret complex directions, instructions and other forms of contract and/or customer specifications. Capable of quality assessment, trouble shooting, visualizing the finished project and incorporating improvements. Demonstrable knowledge in sales, marketing and negotiating. Ability to coordinate multiple projects to meet business requirements and schedule workflow to achieve maximum output. Demonstrates high degree of professional behavior, appearance, work ethic, attention to detail, honesty and reliability. Demonstrates ability to manage stress constructively and maintain professional, positive, even temperament during periods of frustration, ambiguity and change. Demonstrable skills in interpersonal communication and conflict management.
