SUMMARY
The Pharmacy Technician works under the supervision of a physician. Assist physician with providing medications to patients on a timely and accurate basis by collecting, preparing and delivering medication order as directed. Ensure sufficient and accurate drug and supply inventories by assisting with the inventory, receiving, verifying and storing medications, processing credits, entering and transmitting drug orders and assisting clerical staff with processing of patient charges as required. Pharmacy technician’s work only under the supervision of a physician.Â
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESÂ
Includes but not limited to the following:
- Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a physician and/or PA/RN, evaluates outcomes, consults with other health team members as required.
- Prepares drug to be dispensed by labeling bottles with drug information as well as the patient the drug is to be dispensed to and obtaining physician approval.
- Prepares oral medication to be dispensed to a patient.Â
- Obtain new prescriptions or treatment orders that include medications from clinic physicians and determines if filling the drug through in-house dispensary is best outcome for patient.
- Conducts ordering and stocking for all drugs administered in the clinic.
- Posts payments received by insurance companies for drugs dispensed through dispensary and ensure the reports balance at the end of each month.
- Assists patient with finding any financial assistance programs available to the patient according to the disease and drug.
- Performs financial counseling by meeting with patient and explaining coverage and out of pocket expenses based on physician’s orders.Â
- Checks eligibility for all insured patients scheduled in Meditech
- Obtain authorization for all treatments and injections for all insurance companies.
- Documents properly in the patient chart in EMR.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to co-workers, physicians and Office Manager. Communications to co-workers, patients and clients are courteous. Uses proper grammar and spelling in written communications.
- Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family.
- Interacts professionally with patient and family and involves patient and family in patient education.
- Maintains infection prevention and control standards for exam/procedure rooms; cleans, disinfects, changes linen, etc.
- Maintains office instruments; knowledgeable of sterilization techniques and biological indicators for sterilization.
- Meets current documentation standards and policies.
- Demonstrates proficiency in use of the organization’s Electronic Medical Record.
- Actively participates in the organization’s quality improvement and payer incentive initiatives (e.g., CCAH specialty and PCP incentives). Participates in the practice’s continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with office standards.
- Answers telephone calls in a professional manner, directs calls appropriately; refers patient problems to office physician; schedules patient appointments.
- Ensures an adequate stock of supplies.
- Assists in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
- Maintains a good working relationship with all staff members of the office.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Successful completion of a California Pharmacy Technician Program and a Board of Pharmacy Certificate.
- Licensure: Current California Pharmacy Technician Certification
- Must meet all legal requirements, including minimum age of 18 years.
- Current BCLS/CPR certification.
- One or two years of related pharmacy experience.

Bilingual may be required at certain clinics or during certain shifts.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESÂ
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
