About the role
Working with various stakeholders, the Electrical Engineer will lead the implementation, commissioning and sustainment of medium complexity Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical programs across the Rio Tinto Kennecott Copper value stream.
What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Superintendent, Reliability Engineering, you will be:
• Investigate equipment failures and implement mitigation actions.
• Develop, implement and track operating and calibration verification programs.
• Lead and participate in defect elimination projects.
• Provide engineering support to operating and capital projects.
• Coordinate contractors to achieve project outcomes
• Prepare scopes of work and cost estimates for electrical and instrumentation projects
About you
• A strong commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
• Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Engineering Technology or a related discipline with at least 5 years of relevant industrial experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline with at least 2 years of relevant industrial experience.
• Experience with Rockwell Automation PLCs, including Allen Bradley systems.
• Experience with Rockwell Automation Variable Frequency Drives and related software, including Studio 5000 and Connected Components Workbench.
• Experience with instrumentation, process control systems and troubleshooting in a heavy industrial environment.
• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, loop drawings and process flow drawings.
• Experience developing maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting documentation.
• Experience commissioning industrial control systems and working with industrial networking.
• Knowledge of SAP, DeltaV, Siemens PLCs and drives, and AutoCAD Electrical will be considered an advantage.
• Experience in mining or other safety-critical processing environments, industrial wiring best practices, and knowledge of NFPA 70 and 70E will be considered an advantage.

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter, and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum, and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
