For 110 years, Industrial Supply has built its reputation on strong customer relationships, dependable service, and helping businesses get the products they need to keep their operations running.
As we celebrate our 110th anniversary, we're continuing to invest in the people and services that set us apart. We're looking for a motivated Field Sales & VMI Representative who enjoys building relationships, working independently, and finding ways to provide even more value to customers.
Position Summary
The Field Sales & VMI Representative is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of customer accounts while ensuring their day-to-day inventory needs are handled accurately and efficiently.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing role that combines relationship management, route service, inventory management, and sales. You'll regularly visit assigned customer locations, manage Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs, replenish products and vending machines, identify customer needs, and work with our Sales Team to develop opportunities for account growth.
You'll become a familiar and trusted resource for your customers. Success in this position comes from understanding their operations, anticipating what they need, providing dependable service, and identifying solutions that make it easier for them to do business with Industrial Supply.
If you enjoy working independently, building long-term customer relationships, and seeing the direct results of your work, this could be a great fit.
What You'll Do
Manage & Support Customer Accounts
- Maintain an organized route plan and visit assigned customer accounts on a consistent schedule.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for VMI-related needs and questions.
- Build strong working relationships with customers and become a trusted resource for their inventory needs.
- Learn each customer's operation, usage patterns, and service expectations.
- Respond to customer questions and concerns professionally and promptly.
- Work closely with customers and the Industrial Supply team to resolve issues and keep accounts running smoothly.
Manage Customer Inventory
- Monitor inventory levels at customer locations and maintain appropriate stock based on usage and demand.
- Use Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) systems and tools to track inventory, replenishment, and product movement.
- Replenish bins, vending machines, and other customer inventory locations accurately and efficiently.
- Monitor product usage and sales trends to help prevent both stockouts and unnecessary inventory.
- Maintain clean, organized, accurately labeled, and professional-looking inventory locations.
- Maintain the appearance and functionality of vending and other VMI equipment.
- Identify inventory or service issues and take ownership of resolving them.
Grow Customer Relationships
Providing excellent service is the foundation of this position, but we're also looking for someone who can recognize opportunities to grow our customer relationships.
You'll:
- Identify additional products and services that may benefit existing customers.
- Recognize cross-selling and upselling opportunities based on customer needs and product usage.
- Make thoughtful product recommendations rather than simply filling existing inventory.
- Partner with the Sales Team to develop and pursue account-growth opportunities.
- Help introduce additional Industrial Supply capabilities to existing customers.
- Support strategies for developing new business and expanding our presence within the market.
- Work toward established sales and account-growth objectives.
The goal isn't simply to sell more products. It's to understand the customer well enough to identify solutions that genuinely help their operation.
Partner with the Sales Team
- Communicate customer needs, opportunities, and concerns to the appropriate Sales Team members.
- Participate in customer business reviews and account-planning discussions.
- Share inventory and usage information that can help identify trends and opportunities.
- Coordinate with Sales to ensure commitments made to customers are followed through.
- Support new customer implementations and expansion of VMI programs when needed.
Support the Team
- Work collaboratively with other Field Sales and VMI team members.
- Cross-train on key accounts to provide dependable customer coverage.
- Provide account coverage for teammates when needed.
- Share information and best practices that improve service across the team.
- Represent Industrial Supply professionally at every customer location.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is:
- Customer-focused and enjoys building relationships.
- Self-motivated and comfortable managing a daily schedule independently.
- Organized and able to manage multiple customer accounts and priorities.

- A strong communicator who can work effectively with customers and internal teams.
- Detail-oriented when managing inventory and customer information.
- Comfortable using technology and learning inventory-management systems.
- Dependable and committed to following through on customer needs.
- Able to work independently while still being an effective member of a larger sales and service team.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple customer accounts and priorities.
- Self-motivated and goal-oriented approach to work.
- Ability and willingness to work toward established sales and performance objectives.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Helpful, But Not Required
- Previous outside sales, route sales, account management, or customer service experience.
- Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) experience.
- Experience in industrial distribution, manufacturing, construction, MRO, or a related industry.
- Experience managing customer inventory or vending programs.
- Ability to analyze sales and inventory information to identify trends and opportunities.
- Experience with inventory-management systems, CRM systems, or related technology.
Don't have VMI experience? If you have strong customer relationship skills, enjoy working independently, and are motivated to learn the inventory side of the business, we encourage you to apply.
