American Heritage School is a mission-driven, faith-centered private school aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We are seeking a full-time Middle School History Teacher who is passionate about both academic excellence and helping students grow spiritually, socially, and intellectually.

Nature of the Role

This position is considered a faith-forming and ministerial role within American Heritage School. In addition to academic instruction, teachers are expected to actively support, model, and teach principles consistent with the Mission and values of AHS and the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a minimum of two years of experience, preferably in a formal school setting. A bachelor's degree or equivalent is required. Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • An enduring love of youth and a genuine passion for teaching and learning
  • A commitment to actively participate in and contribute to a faith-based educational environment aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills
  • High energy and a warm, consistent presence in the classroom
  • Experience preparing and delivering daily lesson plans
  • Experience establishing and communicating clear learning objectives
  • Ability to use a variety of pedagogical methods and a willingness to continue learning and growing professionally

Faith and Mission Responsibilities

In addition to academic responsibilities, teachers at AHS are expected to:

  • Integrate faith-based principles and moral reasoning into classroom instruction where appropriate
  • Serve as an example of Christian character and discipleship to students
  • Support and uphold the spiritual mission of the school through daily interactions with students and colleagues
  • Participate in school-wide devotionals, prayer, and other faith-centered activities
  • Respond thoughtfully to student questions related to faith, values, and moral decision-making in a manner consistent with the school's mission

Professional Expectations

Candidates should be professional in appearance and demeanor and willing and able to serve as ambassadors for the AHS Mission, Honor Code, and Diversity Statement. Personal conduct, public statements, and online presence, both on and off campus, are expected to reflect and support the school's religious mission and educational purpose.

Teaching Responsibilities

Successful candidates will bring a high, warm, and consistent energy so that students feel both supported and inspired. Teachers should have a broad knowledge and deep understanding of the subject matter and be able to:

  • Teach students English and Writing, helping them grow in academic writing and expression
  • Foster a love of history and help students connect lessons to the world around them
  • Inspire a passion for classic literature and thoughtful discussion
  • Present information in an engaging way with strong pacing and clear organization
  • Distill knowledge into concepts and principles that students can apply in a variety of settings

Communication and Organization

Candidates should demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to:

  • Create and post assignments with clear instructions, models, and rubrics
  • Maintain purposeful and effective classroom routines
  • Communicate with parents and colleagues in ways that are timely, collaborative, precise, and positive
  • Monitor and report student progress clearly and consistently

Experience working with students with specific learning disabilities is helpful but not required.

Extracurricular Opportunities

Applicants are encouraged to share any interest or experience in supporting AHS extracurricular athletics programs. AHS prefers to fill coaching and activity roles with employees who have both the interest and skills to mentor students in these areas.

Position Details

This position is available starting August 1, 2026, for the 2026–2027 school year.
