Maintenance Mechanic – Ammonia Refrigeration

Shift: Overnight / 3rd Shift

Bridor USA is hiring an experienced Maintenance Mechanic – Ammonia Refrigeration to join our Salt Lake City food manufacturing facility.

Hands-on industrial ammonia refrigeration experience is required for this position.

Candidates must have direct experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial ammonia refrigeration systems. General industrial maintenance experience without ammonia refrigeration experience will not meet the minimum requirements for this role.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining the safe and reliable operation of our refrigeration, utility, production, and facility equipment.

What You’ll Do

Ammonia Refrigeration & Utilities

  • Operate, monitor, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial ammonia refrigeration systems
  • Diagnose refrigeration system issues, determine root causes, and perform appropriate repairs and corrective actions
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on ammonia refrigeration equipment
  • Monitor system pressures, temperatures, equipment performance, and operating conditions
  • Troubleshoot compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, valves, piping, and related refrigeration equipment
  • Identify abnormal system conditions and respond appropriately to maintain safe and reliable operations
  • Perform documented refrigeration inspections and operational checks
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and corrective actions
  • Support the reliability and efficiency of plant refrigeration, utility, and energy systems

Industrial Maintenance

  • Troubleshoot mechanical and production equipment failures
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production and facility equipment
  • Install, maintain, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Fabricate or modify parts, structures, and equipment using maintenance shop tools
  • Assist with plumbing, electrical, and other facility maintenance needs
  • Work closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and other departments to minimize downtime
  • Support equipment reliability and continuous improvement initiatives

Food Safety & Quality

  • Perform maintenance and refrigeration activities in accordance with food safety and quality requirements
  • Follow GMPs and established plant procedures
  • Notify Quality Assurance of any conditions or deviations that could affect product quality or food safety
  • Help ensure refrigeration and utility systems maintain conditions required for safe food production
  • Follow applicable HACCP, FDA, EPA, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Hands-on industrial ammonia refrigeration experience
  • Demonstrated experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial ammonia refrigeration systems
  • Industrial maintenance or mechanic experience in a manufacturing or similar industrial environment
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Ability to perform preventive and corrective maintenance in an industrial environment
  • Ability to work independently and respond effectively to refrigeration and equipment issues
  • Basic computer and maintenance documentation skills
  • Ability and willingness to work a permanent overnight / 3rd shift schedule
  • Ability to work weekends, overtime, and additional coverage as operational needs require

Preferred Qualifications

  • Food manufacturing or food processing experience
  • Experience in bakery, frozen foods, dairy, beverage, protein, cold storage, or another temperature-controlled manufacturing environment
  • Ammonia Blue Seal or Red Seal certification
  • Additional industrial refrigeration or ammonia safety training or certifications
  • Familiarity with GMP and food safety requirements
  • Experience supporting plant utilities and automated production equipment

Schedule

This is a permanent overnight / 3rd shift position supporting our Salt Lake City manufacturing operation.

Candidates must be available to work:

  • Overnight hours
  • Weekdays and/or weekends based on the assigned schedule
  • Overtime as needed
  • Additional shift coverage when required
