Procurement & Supply Chain Manager

Position Summary


MZ Packaging is seeking an experienced and results-driven Procurement & Supply Chain Manager to lead purchasing, inventory planning, supplier relationships, warehouse coordination, and data-driven operational improvements. This leadership role is responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies that support business growth, cost reduction, inventory optimization, and operational excellence.

The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who combines strong negotiation skills with analytical expertise and can leverage business intelligence tools, including Data Ninja and Power BI, to drive decision-making, improve visibility, and identify opportunities across the supply chain. This position works closely with Operations, Production, Warehouse, Quality, Finance, and Executive Leadership to ensure the efficient flow of materials throughout the organization.


Bilingual English/Spanish communication is strongly preferred.


Key Responsibilities


Procurement Leadership


  • Develop and execute procurement strategies that align with company objectives and growth initiatives.
  • Lead all purchasing activities, including supplier selection, contract negotiations, sourcing, and vendor management.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with suppliers to secure favorable pricing, quality, and service levels.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the supply chain.
  • Ensure procurement activities remain compliant with company policies, quality standards, and industry regulations.


Supply Chain & Inventory Management


  • Oversee inventory planning and purchasing activities to maintain optimal stock levels while minimizing excess inventory.
  • Collaborate with Production, Operations, and Sales teams to accurately forecast demand and procurement requirements.
  • Monitor supply chain risks and proactively develop contingency plans to minimize disruptions.
  • Ensure timely availability of materials required to meet customer demands and production schedules.
  • Lead initiatives to improve inventory accuracy, turnover, and overall supply chain efficiency.


Warehouse Oversight


  • Provide leadership and oversight of warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, inventory control, and shipping processes.
  • Partner with warehouse leadership to ensure operational efficiency, inventory accuracy, and compliance with food safety standards.
  • Develop and monitor warehouse KPIs, including inventory accuracy, order fulfillment, receiving performance, and cycle counts.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts to enhance warehouse productivity and process efficiency.
  • Ensure proper inventory handling practices and material traceability are maintained.


Data Analytics & Business Intelligence


  • Serve as the primary owner and administrator of Data Ninja reporting and analytics initiatives.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve dashboards, reports, and data visualization tools to support operational and leadership decision-making.
  • Create and manage Power BI dashboards that provide visibility into procurement performance, inventory levels, supplier metrics, warehouse operations, and key business KPIs.
  • Analyze data trends and generate actionable recommendations that support profitability, efficiency, and business growth.
  • Ensure accuracy, integrity, and consistency of operational reporting systems and data sources.
  • Train department leaders on utilizing reports and business intelligence tools effectively.


Financial & Performance Management


  • Develop and manage procurement budgets and spending plans.
  • Track purchasing performance, cost savings initiatives, inventory investment, and supplier performance metrics.
  • Present performance reports and operational insights to executive leadership.
  • Establish departmental KPIs and lead accountability for achieving organizational goals.


Team Leadership


  • Lead, coach, and develop procurement and supply chain personnel.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support cross-functional communication between Procurement, Operations, Warehouse, Quality, Finance, and Sales teams.
  • Participate in strategic planning and operational leadership meetings.


Food Safety & Compliance Responsibilities


  • Ensure all sourced materials and services comply with applicable food safety regulations and company standards.
  • Work closely with Quality and Compliance teams to maintain approved vendor programs and certifications.
  • Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
  • Ensure procurement and warehouse documentation remains accurate, complete, and audit-ready.


Qualifications


Education


Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Logistics, Finance, or related field.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree or MBA.


Experience


  • 5+ years of progressive experience in procurement, supply chain, purchasing, warehouse management, or operations leadership.
  • Previous management or supervisory experience required.
  • Experience leading supplier negotiations and contract administration.
  • Experience in manufacturing, packaging, food production, or related industries preferred.


Technical Skills


  • Strong experience with ERP systems and procurement software.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with dashboard creation and business reporting.
  • Experience using Data Ninja or similar business intelligence and data management platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory management, forecasting, sourcing strategies, and warehouse operations.
  • Understanding of KPI reporting, process improvement, and operational analytics.


Language Requirements


  • Bilingual English/Spanish required or strongly preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, vendors, and customers in both languages is highly valued.

Physical Requirements


  • Ability to work in both office and warehouse environments.
  • Frequent computer use and analysis of operational data.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to walk warehouse and production floors regularly.
