Position Summary
The Athletics Event Operations Intern supports the planning and execution of home athletic events and related operations. This role is integral to delivering a high-quality game-day experience by assisting with event setup, in-game operations, fan engagement, and facility management.
The intern will gain hands-on experience in collegiate athletics operations while working closely with athletic staff, game-day personnel, and campus partners. This position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.
Key Responsibilities
Event Operations
- Assist with setup and breakdown of athletic venues, including fields, courts, and equipment for home contests
- Arrive several hours prior to events to support preparation and operational needs
- Ensure facilities are clean, organized, and event-ready
Game Day Execution
- Support execution of in-game promotions, halftime entertainment, and sponsor activations
- Assist with coordinating on-field or on-court activities
- Collaborate with staff to ensure smooth and timely event operations
Fan Engagement
- Help create a welcoming and engaging environment for fans and guests
- Distribute promotional materials and assist with marketing initiatives
- Provide customer service and assist with crowd management when necessary
Logistics & Administrative Support
- Assist with ticketing operations, marketing efforts, and general event logistics
- Support facility upkeep, including cleaning, organizing, and minor maintenance tasks
- Complete administrative duties and other projects as assigned
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Current undergraduate or graduate student (preferred fields: sports management, communications, business, or related area)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and organizational ability
- Ability to work in stressful situations
- Interest in collegiate athletics administration and compliance
Education
- Currently pursuing a degree in Sports Management, Marketing, Communications, or a related field
Flexibility
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays based on event schedules
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
