Position Summary

Westminster University’s Department of Club Sports is seeking a highly creative, motivated, and detail-oriented Club Sports Media Intern to lead the visual storytelling and brand identity efforts for Griffin Club Sports. This role will support and manage the development and execution of high-impact design content across multiple platforms, including social media, digital, and print. The ideal candidate a self-motivated, autonomous worker, who is passionate about collegiate athletics and storytelling through social media.

Note: Club Sports are rapidly growing at Westminster University and this position will experience hands-on involvement in the launch and growth of new programs, growing program recognition, and sharing team and program information and culture through the lens of social media. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend club sports events and competitions to capture photos and video content.
  • Collect and store digital content provided by club athletes
  • Create a consistent, comprehensive, and engaging social media presence that highlights the university, its desirable setting, the student athletes, and the overall Westminster experience.
  • Work with the Director of Club Sports, coaches, and club officers to maximize the impact of the university social media presence and ensure the goals of all stakeholders are being met.
  • Manage the social media accounts for all club sports.
  • Seek to grow social media engagement, expand coverage, unify messaging and branding, and broaden appeal of Westminster University Club Sports.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent visual identity for Westminster Club Sports across all media and platforms.

Track emerging design trends and technologies to keep Westminster University Club Sports at the forefront of visual communication.

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student (preferred fields: communications, digital marketing, social media management or similar field)
  • Graphic design skills using Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop or InDesign).
  • Proficiency in content creation across multiple platforms: social media, video, and print.
  • Experience managing multiple social media accounts (e.g., Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok) for an organization or sports team
  • Experience developing strategic media campaigns to enhance visibility and fan engagement.
  • Photography/videography skills, including shooting, editing, and organizing media assets.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed for coverage.

Preferred

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with both experienced and inexperienced staff to turn ideas into effective media content or designs.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions for hours at a time.
  • Knowledge of current social media trends used in sports media and athletic creative departments
  • Ability to organize, archive, and sort social media content, edited media, and unedited media for future use.
  • Ability to analyze, read, and archive social media platform statistics
  • Access and full proficiency with professional videography and photography equipment.
  • Ability to manage a demanding schedule with multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience expanding a brand for a sports team and/or club and/or athletes
  • Ability to Work cooperatively to work across multiple departments in a team environment


Work Environment & Schedule

  • Regular office hours with flexibility for evening and weekend coverage of home events.
  • Some travel may be required for major competitions or events.
