Summary
The Engineering Technician 1 - Refrigeration supports the development of Refrigeration systems with hands-on prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting.  This role works closely with Refrigeration Engineers and other Technicians to make our products and processes better.
 
Essential Functions
• This role will assist Engineering Project Teams in planning and executing prototype builds and evaluations, including:
o Ordering and organizing materials.
o Fabricating and assembling prototypes – particularly the refrigeration systems and components
o Evaluating prototypes for manufacturability, performance, and organizing the feedback to the Engineering Project Teams
• Operate refrigeration equipment and tools like copper brazing torches, vacuuming systems, refrigerant charging systems, thermal sensors and data acquisition devices, etc.
• Develop and fabricate fixtures, tooling, and other equipment to improve department prototyping and development processes.
• Support the overall department in maintaining cleanliness, organizing and the dispositioning of inventory, following and promoting safe practices in the prototyping area.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Refrigeration – hands-on experience required, Certified Technician a plus
• Basic experience in one or more fabrication skills (in addition to refrigeration):
o Sheet Metal Forming (including welding and grinding)
o Wood Fabrication
o Metal Machining / CNC
o 3D Printing / Additive manufacturing
o General Manufacturing Assembly
o Electrical wiring / Electronic Controls / Instrumentation / Programming
• The ability to create simple block diagrams for mechanical and electrical applications
• The ability to read engineering drawings and use measuring tools
• The ability to operate a forklift and become certified is required, previous experience a plus
• The ability to self-manage is required:
o Organize time to best support multiple initiatives with quickly changing priority
o Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Some 3D CAD modeling experience is a plus, SolidWorks preferred.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing Best Practices (5S, TPM) is a plus
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills in a team environment
 
 
Education and Experience 
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent (2-Year Technical Degree preferred).
• Minimum of 1 years of experience with refrigeration or HVAC systems (repair, service, or design)
• Certified Refrigeration Technician a plus
• EPA Section 608 certification a plus
