Position Title: High School Latin Teacher

Location: Great Hearts Forest Heights Upper School (5538 Research Dr, San Antonio, TX 78240)

Reports To: Headmaster

FLSA Status: Salaried-Exempt

Classical Languages at Great Hearts:Ā 

  • Latin is not an elective at Great Hearts, but part of the core curriculum.Ā All Great Hearts students study Latin from 6th through 8th grade,Ā withĀ an optionĀ to pursueĀ the classics track in high school,Ā studyingĀ advanced Latin and Ancient Greek.Ā Many academies offer Latin at K-5 as well.Ā 
  • Latin provides an essential foundation for our academies’ focus onĀ the WesternĀ tradition through its incorporation of history and culture.Ā 
  • Rigorous and detailed Latin lessons will develop students that can translate texts from the original Latin to English through Socratic discussion.Ā 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach assigned classes using the Great Hearts curriculum and materials, preparing thoughtful lessons and cultivating an orderly, joyful classroom that supports the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.
  • Provide appropriate academic support to students, monitor progress, and partner with school leadership to address academic or behavioral needs in a timely manner.
  • Uphold and model the culture, policies, and expectations of Great Hearts, including dress code, conduct, and safety procedures, contributing to a respectful and orderly school environment.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with families, initiating conferences as needed and fostering strong home-school partnerships.
  • Participate fully in the life of the academy through faculty collaboration, school events, assigned duties, and a shared commitment to ongoing professional growth and excellence in teaching.

Required/Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's or higher degree is required for a lead teaching role
  • Certification is not required for general education
  • All majors are welcome

US Work Authorization is required.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.

Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.
