Summary:Â Build your structural engineering career at Matrix, where your ideas, technical expertise, and initiative have a direct impact on the projects we deliver and the future of our company. In this role, you will take ownership of design assignments while contributing to larger, more complex projects involving buildings, bridges, retaining walls, culverts, foundations, water infrastructure, and other civil structures. You'll work closely with experienced engineers and project managers while enjoying the freedom to develop your own processes, apply creative problem-solving approaches, and identify opportunities to improve how we work. As a small, agile team, we offer the opportunity to work on a diverse mix of exciting projects where every team member's contributions are visible and valued. Our structural engineering team has an average tenure of nearly 10 years and very little turnover, reflecting a collaborative culture that supports professional growth, innovation, and long-term career development.Â

Salary Range:Â $95,000 - $120,000 annually plus bonuses. Salary will be dependent upon multiple factors.Â
Locations: San Antonio, TX
Essential Functions:
- Perform structural calculations in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.Â
- Prepare engineering drawings, construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates using industry-standard software.Â
- Apply engineering judgment to evaluate alternatives and solve complex design challenges.Â
- Coordinate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver quality projects on schedule and within budget.Â
- Communicate project progress, technical issues, and recommendations to project teams and clients as appropriate.Â
- Prepare supporting documentation, permitting packages, and technical reports for projects in various jurisdictions.Â
- Assist with project planning, task budgeting, scope development, and proposal preparation.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control reviews of engineering calculations, drawings, and technical documents.Â
- Contribute to the improvement of engineering processes, standards, and workflows while supporting the continued growth of Matrix's structural engineering practice.

- Strong understanding of structural behavior, load paths, structural analysis, and engineering mechanics.
- Ability to take broad direction and independently develop detailed, technically sound engineering solutions.
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with structural analysis software, including finite element and frame modeling applications.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and other engineering design software preferred.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Desire to improve engineering processes, explore new technical areas, and contribute to the growth of the structural practice.
- Eagerness to learn, take ownership of work, and assume increasing levels of technical and project responsibility.
- Ability to exercise sound engineering judgment and make practical, constructible design decisions.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- Assign tasks to and coordinate with entry level engineers and designers.
- Plan and coordinate detailed aspects of the engineering work.
- Assist with proposals, contracts, and client management.
- Prepare scope, schedule, and budget parameters. 
- Mentor and train staff as needed.
Education and Experience:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree from accredited program in civil engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering.
- Professional Engineering licensure or ability to obtain PE within one year.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience with an emphasis in structural engineering.
- Strong industry relationships and an understanding of municipal, state, and federal criteria.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- Valid driver's license, in conjunction with successfully passing the Company’s MVR.
