Responsibilities

What does theĀ PET TechnologistĀ do?Ā (including but not limited to)Ā 

Under general supervision,Ā performs PET imaging procedures and related functions.Ā Ā CollaboratesĀ with Medical Director and management on technical issues, equipmentĀ performanceĀ and QA. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program,Ā to includeĀ the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.Ā

The essential duties and responsibilitiesĀ (including but not limited to)Ā 

  • Performs diagnostic PETĀ imaging procedures toĀ include:Ā injection of radio- pharmaceutical and/or IV contrast, the administration of oral contrast, protocol setup, patient positioning, reconstruction and filming of images, network image transfers, and archiving of image data.Ā 
  • AssistsĀ in procedure scheduling and related front office functions to ensure smooth workflow.Ā Ā Ā 
  • Ensures accuracy of patient demographic information, reportĀ distributionĀ and patient files.Ā Ā Ā 
  • AssistsĀ with the collection of clinical data for patient follow-up and development of teaching and educational information.Ā Ā Ā 
  • Provides protection forĀ patientĀ and selfĀ in accordance withĀ prescribed safety standards.Ā Ā Conducts daily quality control measures toĀ monitorĀ scanner performance.Ā Ā Ā 
  • Reports all malfunctions and/or need for service to the proper company or facility.Ā 
  • Responsible for patient data and filmsĀ including:Ā printing, archiving, retrieval, network data transfers, tracking and logging of loaned films and requested outside films.Ā Ā Ā 
  • Understands the contraindications associated with the administration of IV contrast, be able to recognizeĀ possible reactionsĀ and know the procedure to follow in the case of a reaction.Ā Ā Ā 
  • Ordering of necessary office, medical, printing and archiving media.Ā 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the PET Technologist position will have the following background and experience:Ā Ā Ā 

Ā 

Level 1Ā 

  • Associates orĀ BachelorsĀ degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or from an AMA accredited program or Associates orĀ BachelorsĀ degree in Radiologic TechnologyĀ from an AMA accredited program and PET-CTĀ certification.Ā Ā Ā 
  • Minimum three to fiveĀ yearsĀ experienceĀ in nuclear medicine and/orĀ previousĀ PET experience preferred.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā 
  • General knowledge of patient scheduling and billing systems.Ā Ā Ā 
  • CNMT (Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist) and/or ARRT (N) certification and state licensure where applicable.Ā

Level 2 (in addition to level 1 requirementsĀ 

  • Minimum fiveĀ years experienceĀ in nuclear medicine including at least two yearsĀ previousĀ PETĀ  orĀ nuclear medical experience.Ā 

Ā 

Level Sr (in addition to level 1 and 2 requirements)Ā 

  • BachelorsĀ degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiologic Technology, or from an AMA accredited program.Ā Ā Ā 
  • Minimum four years nuclear medicalĀ PETĀ  experience.Ā
