Senior Web Developer (SharePoint Architecture & Development
Focus)
1. Labor Category Description
The Senior Web Developer is a subject matter expert (SME) and lead technical authority for
designing, developing, and architecting enterprise-level solutions within the Microsoft 365 and
SharePoint ecosystem. This role is responsible for translating complex business and knowledge
management requirements into secure, scalable, and high-performing technical solutions. The
Senior Developer leads the full development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and
architectural design to custom development, deployment, and governance. They provide
technical leadership and mentorship to other developers, establish development best practices,
and serve as the final escalation point for the most challenging technical issues related to the
SharePoint platform and its custom applications.


2. Typical Task List
SharePoint Architecture and Solution Design:
Architect and design the overall information architecture for the enterprise
SharePoint environment, including hub site structures, site collection strategies,
and governance policies.
Lead the design of complex, custom business applications using the SharePoint
Framework (SPFx), Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate), and Azure
services.
Evaluate and recommend new technologies and approaches to extend the
capabilities of the SharePoint platform and improve business processes.
Develop and enforce development standards, best practices, and code review
processes for the team.


Advanced Custom Development:
Lead the hands-on development of custom, complex SharePoint Framework
(SPFx) web parts and extensions using React, TypeScript, and other modern web
technologies.
Develop sophisticated automated workflows and applications using the Power
Platform, including custom connectors and integrations with external systems and
APIs.
Integrate SharePoint solutions with other Microsoft 365 services (e.g., Teams,
Power BI) and enterprise line-of-business applications.
Write and maintain custom scripts (e.g., PowerShell with PnP) for automating
administrative tasks, site provisioning, and large-scale content migrations.


Knowledge Management and Strategy:
Collaborate with business stakeholders to define and implement the organization's
knowledge management strategy within the SharePoint platform.
Design and configure advanced SharePoint Search solutions, including custom
result sources and refiners, to optimize content discoverability across the
enterprise.
Lead large-scale content migration projects, developing the strategy and tools to
move data from legacy systems to SharePoint Online.


Technical Leadership and Mentorship:
Serve as the lead developer and technical mentor for a team of journeyman
developers and site administrators.
Provide expert-level Tier 3 support, diagnosing and resolving the most complex
issues related to custom code, system performance, and platform integrations.
Act as the primary technical liaison with other IT teams (e.g., security, network,
database) to ensure solutions are secure, compliant, and well-integrated.


3. Minimum Qualifications / Requirements
Experience:
A minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in application or web
development.
At least five (5) years of this experience must be focused on architecting and
developing custom solutions for Microsoft SharePoint (with a strong preference
for SharePoint Online).
Proven experience leading development projects and mentoring junior developers.


Certifications (Computing Environment - Desired):
Microsoft 365 Certified: Developer Associate - Highly Preferred
Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Solution Architect Expert


Security Clearance:
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoW Security Clearance


Technical Skills:
Expert-level proficiency in developing custom solutions using the SharePoint
Framework (SPFx), React, and TypeScript.
Expertise in the Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate), including
building complex flows and canvas apps.
Strong proficiency with front-end web technologies: HTML5, CSS3, and
JavaScript.
Advanced scripting skills with PowerShell (particularly PnP PowerShell).
In-depth knowledge of SharePoint information architecture, security models, and
application lifecycle management.
Experience with REST APIs, Microsoft Graph, and integrating with external data
sources.
