Company Overview

 

Leads the strategy, governance, and execution of all Private Fleet Safety and Compliance programs, policies, processes, and technology initiatives. Oversees Driver Orientation and Training across the network to ensure a safety-focused, highly compliant workforce. Responsible for ensuring compliance with all FMCSA, DOT, and related regulatory requirements while providing leadership and guidance regarding regulatory changes and their impact on fleet operations.

 


Job Details

Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Lead and manage all functions related to Fleet Safety

o   Set policy and procedure including disciplinary guides in alignment with internal partners

o   Monitor and manage all safety KPIs to expectation

o   Primary leader for major accident notification, investigation, and testimony

o   Manage and lead all technology effort related to Safety

o   Manage expense within allocated budget

o   Engage local drivers, technicians, and support staff for frequent inspections and audits

o   Partner with capital team and manufacturers to develop and maintain appropriate equipment spec to meet business needs

o   Develop and maintain safety recognition programs in alignment with internal partners

o   Set long-term safety strategy and vision

o   Connect with industry leaders, large fleets, and industry associations (ATA, NPTC)

·       Lead and manage all functions related to Fleet Compliance

o   Compliance, Safety, Accountability (“CSA”) Management:  Manage all efforts to comply with required CSA categories and thresholds.  Report ongoing status to leadership

o   Driver Log Compliance:  Ensure team is monitoring all compliance with driver logs and oversight efforts to include weekly reporting, targeted audits, and random audits 

o   Ensure awareness and compliance with all current and future regulatory programs including any potential expansion markets

o   Partner across other functions driving program adherence.  Functions include Fleet operations and maintenance, DC operations, HR, Legal

o   Partner with outside consultants to audit Fleet programs, receive recommendations, and drive improvements where applicable

o   Ensure appropriate technology is in place and continuously investigate new technology through conferences, other industry leaders and associations

·       Lead and manage all functions related to Fleet Driver Orientation and Training

·       Construct and maintain all driver orientation programs and materials – ensure adherence

·       Construct and maintain all driver training programs and materials – ensure adherence

·       Monitor adherence to all orientation and training expectations including Smith system, closed quarter maneuvering, trainer certifications, and trainee signoffs

·       Manage trainer certification and capacity, audit as applicable

·       Partner with Operations, HR, and local schools to support recruiting

·       Partner with manufacturers on proper training technique and equipment operations

·       Team leadership, development and performance management:

o   Hire, manage and conduct performance reviews

o   Teach, coach, and development the talent

o   Ensure succession planning and training programs are executed

 

 

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

Expert in all DOT and FMCSA requirements

Deep working and technical knowledge of fleet safety and compliance systems

Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written format to leadership

50% minimum travel expectation

Ability to think strategically, tactically, and fiscally across the company portfolio

People Management, Coaching, Development

Ability to work independently and be very detail oriented

Strong business acumen related to P&Ls and KPIs of fleet operating models

Data driven, ability to analyze large sets of data using well-honed software skills to develop insights

Strong negotiating and supplier management skills

Broad general knowledge of complex, multi-site transportation environments


Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Logistics, or related field required.  Requires a minimum of 10 years relevant work experience with at least 5 years operating in a large-scale operations environment and/or management role.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
