About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Structural / Civil Field Engineer to support industrial facility and construction projects in San Antonio, Texas.
The ideal candidate will have a strong structural background with experience supporting industrial construction, structural steel, foundations, building systems, field inspections, contractor coordination, and construction administration.
This role will work closely with construction contractors, equipment vendors, facility teams, manufacturing groups, and project managers to ensure projects meet technical specifications, safety requirements, quality standards, schedules, and applicable building codes.
Responsibilities
Support building system design, startup, and commissioning activities.
Review equipment and product submittals, shop drawings, engineering drawings, specifications, and contractor RFIs.
Provide technical guidance related to structural and civil construction activities.
Coordinate with contractors and equipment vendors on steel detailing, inspections, delivery, installation, erection, and project handover.
Oversee structural steel, foundations, concrete, and general construction work.
Perform continuous field inspections to verify quality, specifications, and code compliance.
Coordinate weekend and plant shutdown activities with contractors, facilities teams, and manufacturing groups.
Support construction administration including schedule coordination, quality confirmation, weekly project meetings, and planned utility outages.
Monitor contractor performance against project schedules and milestone targets.
Prepare field engineering reports documenting work progress, schedule status, and project concerns.
Provide feedback to improve engineering specifications, construction standards, and project requirements.
Coordinate activities across contractors, engineering teams, facilities, manufacturing, and project management.
Ensure work complies with established safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and applicable industry standards.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related Engineering field.
5–10 years of relevant engineering experience.
5+ years of structural design and/or structural installation experience.
2+ years of construction management experience.
Experience developing design criteria for architectural, civil, and structural building systems.
Experience supporting industrial or manufacturing facility construction.
Automotive manufacturing experience involving vehicle, engine, transmission, or similar industrial facilities preferred.
Strong understanding of structural construction methods, drawings, specifications, and field installation.
Strong contractor and construction coordination experience.
Excellent organizational, communication, schedule management, and prioritization skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, and Teams.
Codes & Standards Knowledge
Candidates should have working knowledge of applicable building and industrial standards, including:
IBC
NFPA
ASME
AWS
FM standards
OSHA construction and workplace safety requirements
Preferred Qualifications
Structural engineering background strongly preferred.
Automotive manufacturing facility construction experience.
Experience working inside active industrial or manufacturing plants.
Experience with structural steel erection and inspection.
Experience with concrete and equipment foundations.
Experience with construction commissioning and project handover.
Proficiency with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Build.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on Structural / Civil Field Engineer who is comfortable working directly with contractors in an active manufacturing environment. This person should be able to review designs and drawings, identify field issues, oversee structural installations, coordinate schedules, monitor construction quality, and communicate effectively with both technical teams and project leadership.
