Overview
Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate Manufacturing Engineer to join our Electronics Manufacturing Engineering team in San Carlos, CA. The Manufacturing Engineer will focus on equipment engineering, process engineering, and scaling products from prototype to mass production. This role’s scope is the Joby aircraft’s low and high-voltage electronics assemblies. The ideal candidate is highly organized and self-driven with a deep understanding of mechanical design, manufacturability, and process control. Responsibilities
- Create manufacturing processes, assembly fixturing, tooling, and automated equipment to succeed at both prototype and production buildsÂ
- Create entire production lines’ layouts, workstations, detailed manufacturing work instructions optimized for safety, quality, and efficiencyÂ
- Lead process development efforts using statistical methods such as process capability characterization, gauge repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R), and design of experiments (DoE)Â
- Assure products and processes adhere to quality and compliance standardsÂ
- Collaborate closely with Design Engineers during prototype and new product introduction (NPI)Â
- Work extensively with production technicians and cross-functional teammates during the new product introduction (NPI) phaseÂ
- React to quality and throughput problems during new product introduction (NPI) by iterating manufacturing processes and equipmentÂ
- Iterate existing production lines’ processes, fixturing, tooling, and automated equipment to continuously improve safety, ergonomics, material flow, and waste reduction by implementing Lean Manufacturing best practicesÂ
Required
- B.S. in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering or equivalent.Â
- 5+ years of relevant work experienceÂ
- Proficiency in mechanical design, fixture, and assembly tooling designÂ
- Experience in writing manufacturing work instructions, ergonomic layout of manual workstationsÂ
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings of piece-parts and assemblies, including GD&TÂ
- Experience in prototype and production manufacturingÂ
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, Catia, or similar CAD softwareÂ
- Excellent problem-solving and teamwork skills while working with cross-functional teams.
Desired
- M.S. in manufacturing, or mechanical engineering.
- Experience in aerospace avionics, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, or medical devicesÂ
- Experience in manufacturing in a regulated environment such as 14 CFR Part 21, ISO9001, ISO 13485, TS16949, or equivalentÂ
- Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing, processing, and materialsÂ

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is 98,400 - $164,700/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
