Job Description: Administrator-in-Training (AIT) Intern

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Reports to: Administrator / Regional Director


Purpose of Your Job Position

The primary purpose of your job position is to assist the Administrator in the day-to-day

functions of the facility to learn long-term care management and quality care standards in

accordance with current federal, state, and local regulations.


Delegation of Authority

As the Administrator-in-Training (AIT) Intern, you are delegated the administrative authority,

responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Position Summary

The Administrator-in-training (AIT) intern is designed for students and recent graduates

interested in pursuing a career in healthcare administration and long-term care leadership. The

intern will gain hands-on exposure to the operations of a skilled nursing facility through

structured department rotations, leadership shadowing, special projects, and mentorship from

facility leaders.


Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative Functions

ā— Participate in a training program that includes rotations through nursing, social services,

dietary, admissions, business office, maintenance, and housekeeping.

ā— Assist in managing daily facility operations to ensure compliance with federal, state, and

local regulations.

ā— Learn and support the implementation of facility policies, procedures, and professional

standards of practice.

ā— Observe and participate in resident care planning and interdisciplinary team meetings.

ā— Support efforts in census development, marketing, and customer service initiatives.

ā— Assist in budget preparation, monthly financial statement reviews, and cost control

efforts.

ā— Participate in state/federal survey readiness and assist with the formulation of plans of

correction for cited deficiencies.

ā— Shadow leadership in staffing, employee relations, and performance management

processes.

ā— Represent the facility in dealings with outside agencies, including government agencies

and third-party payers.

ā— Complete all documentation, evaluations, and reports as required by the preceptor and

licensing board.

ā— Maintain an adequate liaison with families and residents to ensure needs are continually

met.

ā— Assist in the development and implementation of policies governing the management of

protected health information.

ā— Attend and participate in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training

programs.

ā— Dedicate three to five hours daily to external business development and marketing

initiatives to drive facility census expansion.


Working Conditions

ā— Works in office areas as well as throughout the facility and its premises.

ā— Moves intermittently during working hours and is subject to frequent interruptions.

ā— Is involved with residents, family members, personnel, visitors, and government

agencies under all conditions.

ā— Is subject to emotionally upset residents and family members.

ā— Is subject to exposure to infectious waste and diseases, including TB and Hepatitis B

viruses.


Educational Requirements

ā— Bachelor's degree required; preferred focus in healthcare administration, business, or a

related field.

ā— Must meet state eligibility requirements for AIT program enrollment.


Experience

ā— Must possess, as a minimum, leadership experience.


Specific Requirements

ā— Must demonstrate knowledge and skill appropriate to the age-related needs of residents

served.

ā— Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

ā— Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.

ā— Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm.

ā— Must be knowledgeable of computer systems and office equipment.


Physical and Sensory Requirements (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)

ā— Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

ā— Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

ā— Must possess sight/hearing senses that function adequately so that position

requirements can be met.

ā— May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
