The Center for Aquaculture Technologies, a private aquaculture innovation and research company, is seeking a highly motivated, hands-on Aquaculture Technician to assist with shrimp husbandry & rearing, maintenance of recirculation water systems and general wet lab maintenance and upkeep. This is a full-time, permanent position and will begin with the successful candidate reporting to the Facility Manager.

Position: Aquaculture Technician I: $43,260 - $48,668

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain populations of shrimp
  • Perform aquatic husbandry duties such as feeding, spawning, transfers and grading
  • Assess and adjust water chemistry parameters
  • Operate recirculation water system equipment
  • Collect, sort, and transfer of shrimp eggs
  • Daily micro-algae care and maintenance
  • Daily larval care of small batches of research shrimp
  • Communicate and update the supervisor and the R&D research team
  • Assist with hatchery organization and clean up as directed
  • Assist with aquatic system maintenance, improvement, and building projects as assigned
  • Must adhere to workplace safety protocols and comply with company health and safety guidelines
  • May be able to participate in an On-Call schedule for after-hours facility alarms

Qualifications and requirements

  • Driver’s license
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Highly motivated and attentive
  • Able to work independently
  • Able to work Saturdays and Sundays

Preferred:

  • Previous experience with aquatic animal care/husbandry
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing skills
  • Background in marine science or biology
