Position SummaryÂ
Illumina is seeking a Director, Product Management, Integrated Clinical Solutions to define and drive cohesive product strategy and lifecycle management for an integrated clinical solution within the Clinical Solutions portfolio. This senior product management leader will set the visionand evolve the strategy, roadmap, and business plan for a complex offering spanning instrumentation, software, and assay content, with a focus on delivering a compelling, end-to-end solution to decentralized clinical customers.Â
This individual will operate as a player/coach—leading and developing a team of product managers while directly contributing to key strategic initiatives, portfolio prioritization, and cross-functional stakeholder management. The role requires strong customer orientation, systems thinking, and the ability to drive alignment and tradeoff decisions for a multi-component solution in a matrixed environment.Â
ResponsibilitiesÂ
Product Strategy and Business PlanningÂ
Represents the integrated solution strategy to senior leadership, providing the connective narrative that links component-level roadmaps into an end-to-end planÂ
Defines and maintains a cohesive product strategy, roadmap, and business plan for an integrated clinical solution spanning instrumentation, software, and assay contentÂ
Translates customer insights, market dynamics, and competitive intelligence into clear product requirements and strategic prioritiesÂ
Determineslong-range roadmap direction based on market needs, product gaps, opportunities, and emerging trendsÂ
Drives the assay/content portfolio strategy as part of the broader solution roadmapÂ
Develops business cases, value propositions, and proposals to support prioritization of new features, capabilities, and investmentsÂ
Partners with finance, strategy, and senior leadership to align portfolio investments with broader business objectivesÂ
Product Lifecycle ManagementÂ
Serves as the senior product management leader and customer advocate across the full development lifecycle—from concept through launch and sustainingÂ
Drives product definition, market requirements, and feature prioritization across an integrated solution spanning instrumentation, software, and workflow componentsÂ
Guides tradeoff decisions to ensure a cohesive, scalable, and differentiated solutionÂ
Defines product positioning by customer segment in partnership with platform, assay, and software product teamsÂ
Actively tracks and translates product performance metrics, voice of customer, and competitive activity to inform continuous improvement and roadmap evolutionÂ
Drives product management input into pricing strategy, business modeling, and forecastingÂ
Cross-Functional LeadershipÂ
Partners closely with R&D, platforms, assay development, software, regulatory, quality, systems integration, and operations to define requirements and align on prioritiesÂ
Collaborates with marketing, medical affairs, and regional teams to support product strategy alignment and launch readinessÂ
Influences stakeholders across the organization at all levels to align on product direction, priorities, and execution plansÂ
Drives product, service, and workflow inputs to broader platform, software, and assay technical roadmapsÂ
Serves as a key subject matter expert for the integrated clinical solution, representing the integrated product vision to senior leadership and external stakeholdersÂ
Team Leadership (Player/Coach)Â
Builds, leads, and develops a team of product managers; provides direction, day-to-day prioritization, mentoring, and career development supportÂ
Acts as a hands-on contributor by directly owning the most strategic, cross-cutting initiatives and product decisionsÂ
Sets the product management operating model, prioritization framework, and decision making cadencethat drive alignment across system components and with cross-functional partnersÂ
Customer and Market EngagementÂ
Conducts market research, customer interviews, voice-of-customer studies, and competitive analysis to inform product directionÂ
Builds and maintains relationships with key customers, KOLs, and partners to inform product strategy and roadmap decisionsÂ
Incorporates customer insights into product requirements, positioning, and tradeoff decisionsÂ
RequirementsÂ
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 18 years of related experience, with 10+ years of Management experience; or 15 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with 12 years of experience. In addition, candidates should have 8+ years of product management experience.
- BS or BA in life sciences, molecular biology, engineering, genomics, or related field; advanced degree and/or MBA preferredÂ
- Demonstrated experience leading product strategy and execution for complex, multi-componentproducts or systemsÂ
- Experience developing, launching, and sustaining products in IVD environmentsÂ
- Strong understanding of clinical customers and laboratory workflowsÂ
- Demonstrated success managing and developing high-performing teamsÂ
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence across the organization at all levels, including senior leadershipÂ
- Exceptional time and project management skills with the ability to independently prioritize competing demandsÂ
- Strong written, verbal, and executive presentation skillsÂ
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environmentÂ
- Able to travel approximately 25% on averageÂ
Preferred QualificationsÂ
Experience with integrated solutions that combine instrumentation, software, and assay/content portfoliosÂ
Experience with next-generation sequencing or molecular diagnostics technologiesÂ
Familiarity with global regulatory and reimbursement environments for clinical productsÂ
Experience building market models, business cases, or pricing frameworks for clinical or diagnostic offeringsÂ
