Summary
We are seeking a high-energy, detail-oriented Director of Banquets to lead the event execution teams for our iconic oceanfront properties. This isn't just a "floor manager" role; you will be the conductor of a complex multi-property symphony, overseeing everything from the pristine service at The Marine Room to large-scale coastal events at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.Unique to this role, you will have full oversight of the Stewarding and Houseman duties, ensuring the back of house is as polished as the front. The Director of Banquets will also serve as the point person for basic AV/IT logistics, ensuring our technology matches the world-class views we provide.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Salary Range: $100k-$120k
Oversee banquet service operations across three distinct venues, ensuring brand standards are met regardless of the setting.
Lead, mentor, and schedule a diverse team including Banquet Servers, Captains, Housemen, and the Stewarding department.
Manage the Houseman team to ensure flawless room setups and the Stewarding team to maintain rigorous sanitation and equipment inventory standards.
Partner closely with the Catering Sales team from the BEO (Banquet Event Order) stage to execution.
Participate in pre-event walkthroughs to provide operational expertise and build client confidence.
Act as the primary on-site resource for basic AV setups (projectors, sound systems, lighting) and troubleshoot IT connectivity for guests and vendors.
Manage labor costs, china/glass/silver inventory, and departmental expenses to hit budgetary targets.
Maintain an uncompromising eye for detail.
Qualification Requirements:
Minimum of 5–7 years in high-volume Banquet Management, preferably within a luxury resort or private club environment.
Proven experience managing non-service departments (Stewarding/Housemen) and a functional comfort level with modern AV technology
The ability to pivot between a casual beachside clambake and a high-end fine-dining event at The Marine Room without missing a beat.
Exceptional "people skills" to navigate the needs of the Sales team, the Executive Chef, and Club members and guests.
Schedule:
Must have flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by the event calendar.
