Position Summary: 

Assists all five SYH pharmacies by answering patient phone calls for pharmacy service. Communicate with providers, pharmacists, external pharmacies and other pharmacy technicians to ensure patient’s medication orders, medication refills or medication questions are provided.

 

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Inputs patient and prescription data into the pharmacy computer system to maintain patient profiles.
  • Accesses patient medication profiles in Epic Willow and Pioneer pharmacy systems.
  • Accesses medication history within patient electronic records and communicates with providers and healthcare teams through secure EHR systems.
  • Clearly and effectively communicates with patients and healthcare staff via phone and electronic messages.
  • Assists and serves patients with phone calls, refill requests and shipment of orders.
  • Assists in updating patient pharmacy insurance information and patient demographics.
  • Bills and adjudicates prescription claims.
  • Assists in the preparation of reports and written documentation using Microsoft office as required by the department, company, state and federal agencies.
  • Ability to use different platforms, USPS and CFS to communicate and organize delivery services and/or mail orders.
  • Conducts patient medication pick-up reminders as assigned.
  • Assists pharmacy staff as directed.

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains and submits orders to maintain an adequate inventory of office, and pharmacy supplies, paper, and equipment needs.
  • Maintains proper training and education with 340B program compliance requirements.
  • Follows established departmental policies and procedures, objectives quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings and workshops.
  • Attends meetings as required and participates in committees as directed.
  • Ability to work at different SYH locations as necessary.
  • Assists in medication packages reconciliation and provides pharmacy services including but not limited to handling patient refill requests.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

 

Job Requirements


Education Required:

High school/GED and completion of a Pharmacy Technician program.

 

Certifications/Licenses Required:

CA Board of Pharmacy Technician license. PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) certification preferred.

 

Experience Required:

Three (3) years of experience working as a Pharmacy Technician.

 

Verbal and Written Skills Required to Perform the Job:

Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Excellent oral and written communicationa must.

 

Technical Knowledge and Skills Required to Perform the Job:

Familiarity with Medi-Cal Program is preferred. Knowledge of Medical terminology is a must.

 

Equipment Used:

Personal Computer, Pharmacy software programs. Experience with Epic Willow and Pioneer pharmacy systems a plus.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting and keyboarding. Occasional lifting of supplies and equipment up to 10 lbs. Superb organizational and analytical abilities. Driving and occasional travel to other SYH sites may be required for the role.

 

Universal Requirements:

Pre-employment requirements include I-9, physical, positive background and reference check results, complete application, new hire orientation, pre-employment PPDs. Compliance with all mandated vaccinations and all boosters is a term and condition of employment.
