Job Summary:
Atrium is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Scientist II to join our growing Translational Medicine (TM) team. This individual will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between discovery biology and clinical application for our lead cardiovascular programs. This is a primary laboratory role focused on developing biomarkers that evaluate target engagement, mechanism of action and predict clinical outcomes in genetically defined cardiomyopathy populations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Translational Research & Discovery: Collaborate closely with the Research teams to design and execute in vivo and in vitro studies that elucidate mechanism of action (MOA) and disease-relevant pathways
- Biomarker Development: Lead the discovery and analytical development of tissue and circulating biomarkers (protein, nucleic acid, or metabolic) from pilot stage through to clinical readiness
- Laboratory Execution: Hands-on execution of biomarker discovery and development. Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot new assay formats to support preclinical-to-clinical translation
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the TM representative in Research workstreams, ensuring that preclinical models are designed with "clinical translatability" in mind
- External Management: Support the transfer and validation of lead biomarker assays to Contract Research Organizations (CROs) for clinical trial implementation
- Data Analysis: Collaborate with other research teams to interpret complex datasets from cardiovascular models, identifying signals that correlate with disease progression or therapeutic response.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- PhD in Cardiovascular Biology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field
- 1–3 years of relevant experience. Experience in cardiovascular diseases and/or biomarker development is highly preferred
- Technical Expertise: Proven track record in biomarker assay development (e.g., high-sensitivity ELISA, MSD, Simoa, qPCR/ddPCR, or LC-MS).
- Experience with in vitro (cell-based) and in vivo (animal model) cardiovascular systems.
- Familiarity with human clinical sample handling and "fit-for-purpose" assay validation
- Growth mindset: highly adaptable with a startup environment, comfortable with ambiguity, and a proactive problem-solver, strong verbal and written communication skills
What we Provide:
- The base salary range for this role is $133,000-$145,000. The final compensation will be commensurate with such factors as relevant experience, skillset, internal equity and market factors.
