About You and the Role

The Senior Systems Engineer will play a key role in the design, development, support, and analysis of communications and encryption devices.

We are looking for a San Diego-based Senior Systems Engineer to join our team at NKI. This is a 100% onsite, full-time position following a 9/80 schedule.

What You Will Do

  • Provide technical support to the program cyber lead.
  • Advise on deployment of cryptographic equipment and mitigate emerging threats.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in encryption technologies.
  • Provide technical analysis of emerging cryptographic products in support of acquisition decisions.
  • Liaise with cryptographic device vendors to determine device lifecycle.
  • Provide briefings to leadership.
  • Support budget and fielding decisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • 5-15 years of experience in Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering, or Network Security
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Ability to research and design new technologies for integration into a system.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship required; must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance at the Secret level; TS/SCI Preferred. Active Secret or TS/SCI Clearance Ideal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Functional Analysis, performance analysis, and Systems design
  • Linux
  • Full-Stack experience
  • DOORS
  • Ability to write CONOPS, Specifications or Requirements and derive into software design, code, test plans, and then execute Systems level testing/debugging.
  • Knowledge of network protocols, network and system design, Internet Protocols, routing, TCP/IP, OSI stack
  • Encryption techniques: Diffie Hellmann, Public Key Cryptography, IPSec, MACsec, TLS
  • Background in cryptographic device development and lifecycle.
  • Understanding of DoW cryptographic policies and publications (CJCSN 6510, NSA Cryptographic Equipment Decertification, National Manager Memos).
  • Knowledge of a wide range of High Assurance encryption products, including Secure Voice, Link Encryption, hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of DoD Programs of Record and acquisition process.
  • Understanding of fielding and replacement issues (e.g., ship avails, form/fit/power requirements.)

Compensation

  • Base salary: $110,000-$175,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
