Job Summary:
The Service Director is responsible for overseeing the service department of an automotive dealership, ensuring that it operates efficiently, meets customer satisfaction goals, and contributes to the dealership's overall profitability. This role involves strategic planning, team management, operational oversight, and enhancing service delivery to achieve high performance and customer retention.
Essential Functions:
- Lead and manage the service department, including service technicians, service advisors, and support staff.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve service operations, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
- Ensure that all department activities align with the dealership's goals and standards.
- Maintain high standards of customer service within the service department.
- Address and resolve customer complaints and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Develop programs to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the service department, including scheduling, workflow management, and quality control.
- Monitor and manage departmental performance, ensuring efficient use of resources and compliance with dealership policies and manufacturer guidelines.
- Implement and oversee service processes and best practices to ensure optimal performance.
- Develop and manage the service department budget, including labor, parts, and overhead costs.
- Analyze financial performance, track key metrics, and implement strategies to improve profitability.
- Manage inventory levels and procurement to balance cost control with customer needs.
- Recruit, train, and evaluate service department staff, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and development opportunities to improve staff performance.
- Create a positive and productive work environment that fosters teamwork and employee engagement.
- Develop and execute service marketing strategies to drive service sales and customer retention.
- Collaborate with the sales team to support promotional activities and service campaigns.
- Analyze service sales data and market trends to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
- Continuously assess and improve service processes, workflows, and customer service standards.
- Implement new technologies and best practices to enhance service efficiency and customer experience.
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements to maintain a competitive edge.
- Ensure that all service operations adhere to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with dealership policies and industry regulations.
- Work closely with other dealership departments (e.g., sales, parts) to ensure seamless operations and enhance overall dealership performance.
- Communicate effectively with manufacturers, suppliers, and other external partners to support service operations.
- Drive and inspect customer vehicles to identify and recommend additional services or repairs that may benefit the customer based on vehicle condition and manufacturer recommendations including upsell service packages and promotions, as appropriate.
- Maintain satisfactory attendance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Hire and trains shop staff.
- Oversee the daily workflow and schedules of shop employees.
- Conduct performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience as an Automotive Service Manager.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record; required to have California driver's license within 30 days following date of hire.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds at a time.
- Extensive experience in automotive service and parts management, including a proven track record in leadership and departmental performance.
- Ability to perform all essential functions of the job description.

- Proficient in financial management, budgeting, and inventory control.
- Knowledge of automotive service operations, parts management, and industry trends.
- Ability to analyze data, develop strategies, and implement process improvements.

- Brand experience.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to maintain service record databases, track inventory, and use computer diagnostic equipment and software
Physical Demands:

- Occasionally climbs or balances; occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, squats or crawls; occasionally lifts up to 20 pounds.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout retail space.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
