About the team

Droyd builds autonomous robotic systems that automate repetitive manual work in real environments. Our robots are built in-house, which means fabrication, iteration, and shop execution are core to how we operate.

Our hardware team designs and builds low-cost six-axis robotic arms used to train and deploy generalist AI models. The shop is where designs become real parts.

About the role

As a Shop Technician / Machinist (Entry Level) at Droyd, you’ll support day-to-day in-house fabrication for our robotics team. You’ll run CNC equipment, operate advanced 3D printers, and produce reliable prototype and production parts.

This is an entry-level, hands-on role designed for someone early in their career who wants to grow into a senior fabrication or manufacturing position. You’ll work closely with mechanical engineers and learn directly on real hardware.

This role is based on-site in San Francisco, CA.

In this role, you’ll

Additive manufacturing

  • Operate and maintain a fleet of Bambu Lab printers (H2D and P1S) with multi-material capability

  • Set up prints using engineering filaments such as PPA-CF, PC, ASA, and PETG-CF

  • Tune slicing for strength, dimensional accuracy, reliability, and material efficiency

  • Manage filament drying, storage, and material handling

  • Own the full print workflow including setup, monitoring, post-processing, and finishing

  • Perform annealing and other thermal post-processing for high-performance polymers

CNC machining

  • Program and run 3-axis and 4-axis CAM operations for aluminum parts

  • Operate in-house CNC equipment including AVID routers and a Makera Carvera mill

  • Plan workholding, design fixtures, and prepare part setups

  • Perform routine maintenance such as calibration, tramming, lubrication, and tool changes

CAD, CAM, and fixturing

  • Create simple CAD models for fixtures, jigs, and prototypes (Onshape preferred)

  • Generate CAM toolpaths for router-style CNC systems and small mills

  • Design custom fixtures for unconventional geometries

General shop operations

  • Operate core shop tools such as drill presses, saws, sanders, and deburring tools

  • Help keep the shop safe, organized, and running smoothly

  • Support inventory tracking for tooling, consumables, and raw materials

  • Learn and grow into operating additional equipment as the shop scales

Vendor coordination

  • Assist with communication and coordination with external machine shops and fabricators

  • Help manage outsourced machining and specialty fabrication work

We’re looking for candidates who

  • Are early in their career and looking for an entry-level role in fabrication or machining

  • Have hands-on experience from school shops, internships, maker spaces, or personal projects

  • Are comfortable working with tools, machines, and physical hardware

  • Want to learn CNC machining, additive manufacturing, and shop best practices

  • Take pride in clean, reliable work and attention to detail

  • Are eager to grow into more responsibility over time
