The Mess Hall
$21–$24 per hour + pooled tips | Full-Time or Part-Time

The Mess Hall is looking for Barback team member to join our front-of-house team. The Barback plays a key role in keeping the bar running smoothly by supporting bartenders, maintaining bar stock, prepping supplies, and the service areas clean and organized.

This is a fast-paced, hands-on position that requires someone who is reliable and able to anticipate what the bar team needs during service.

California Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification is required. Previous bar or restaurant experience is preferred.

What You'll Do

• Support bartenders throughout service by keeping the bar fully stocked and organized.
• Restock liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, glassware, napkins, straws, and other bar supplies.
• Monitor and replenish ice throughout service.
• Prepare and replenish basic garnishes and bar ingredients as needed.
• Retrieve bottles, kegs, supplies, and other items for the bar team.
• Assist with changing kegs and handling beverage deliveries as needed.
• Keep bar counters, service stations, coolers, and surrounding areas clean and organized.
• Assist with washing and restocking glassware when needed.
• Clear tables and bar areas and support overall FOH cleanliness.
• Help bartenders keep service moving efficiently during busy periods.
• Assist with food or beverage running when needed.
• Help with opening, closing, stocking, and breakdown duties.
• Take out trash, recycling, and empty bottles as needed.
• Follow all alcohol-service, food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
• Provide friendly and professional service when interacting with guests.

What We're Looking For

• Current California RBS certification required.
• Previous barback, bar, bartender, restaurant, or hospitality experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of bar operations and service flow is a plus.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work well as part of a team.
• Fast, organized, and able to prioritize multiple tasks during busy service.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout a shift.
• Ability to frequently bend, reach, twist, squat, and lift.
• Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to move cases of beverages, ice, glassware, and other supplies.
• Ability to work efficiently in crowded and busy bar and restaurant environments.
