Position Summary

We are seeking a Binding Authority Underwriter to join our growing team in San Francisco. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career underwriting professional who is looking to build expertise within binding authority while working alongside a collaborative, high-performing team.

The successful candidate will support the management and growth of a profitable book of business, focusing on renewals and new business opportunities within the property and real estate space. This role combines analytical underwriting, relationship management, and portfolio development, providing exposure to a wide range of risks while offering opportunities for continued professional growth.

Location: This role will be a hybrid opportunity out of our San Francisco office (44 Montgomery Street Suite 2000 San Francisco, CA 94104)

What will your job entail?

    • Underwrite and price new business, renewals, and endorsements within delegated authority.

    • Evaluate submissions and risk exposures to determine appropriate pricing, terms, and coverage solutions.

    • Analyze property and real estate-related risks and apply sound underwriting judgment to support profitable outcomes.

    • Review classifications, rating information, and premium calculations for accuracy.

    • Communicate quote terms, conditions, and underwriting requirements effectively with brokers and agency partners.

    • Maintain complete and accurate underwriting documentation within company systems.

    • Coordinate policy issuance and endorsement processing in a timely manner.

    • Order and review inspections, loss information, and underwriting reports to assess risk quality.

    • Develop and maintain productive relationships with brokers, agents, and internal business partners.

    • Manage an established renewal portfolio, with opportunities to expand into larger accounts

    • Monitor renewal opportunities and identify profitable new business prospects.

    • Collaborate with underwriting and cross-functional teams to deliver solutions for complex risks.

    • Ensure underwriting decisions comply with company guidelines, regulatory requirements, and authority levels.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.

    • 1+ years of commercial insurance underwriting experience.

    • Experience as a Renewal Underwriter or similar underwriting role with either another wholesale, carrier or retail brokerage.

    • Exposure to property and/or real estate-related risks.

    • Understanding of commercial insurance fundamentals, policy forms, coverage analysis, and underwriting principles.

    • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.

    • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

    • Strong relationship-building skills and a customer-focused mindset.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Active Property & Casualty license

    • Experience within Binding Authority, MGA, E&S, or delegated authority environments.

    • Knowledge of property-focused insurance products and real estate exposures.

    • CPCU, CIC, or progress toward professional insurance designations.

    • Experience working directly with agency or broker partners.

    • Demonstrated interest in growing underwriting expertise and managing a larger book of business.

The target salary range for this position is $78,750.00 - $80,000.00 annually.

The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
