Commercial and Product Counsel

About the Role

This is a high-ownership attorney role at a seed-stage AI-native legal tech company, sitting at the intersection of legal practice and product innovation. You'll serve as a primary attorney for clients — acting as an extension of their in-house legal teams — while also shaping how AI-assisted workflows evolve the delivery of legal services at scale. The role carries meaningful equity and a direct hand in defining the future of legal technology.

What You'll Do

• Review and negotiate commercial contracts, advising on product and privacy matters for fast-growing technology companies.

• Interpret contract terms and surface key obligations, risks, and anomalies clearly for clients.

• Operate internal AI-assisted tooling to streamline contract review and collaborate with product and engineering teams to improve platform accuracy and speed.

• Identify inefficiencies and patterns in the review process, then design and implement practical fixes.

• Standardize recurring contract types, build review playbooks, and establish quality standards across the team.

• Protect turnaround and SLA commitments while maintaining a high quality bar.

• Partner with operations to evolve how legal services are delivered as the company scales.

What We're Looking For

• J.D. and active California bar membership in good standing.

• 5–8 years of law practice with significant experience supporting technology companies.

• Prior in-house counsel or sole legal counsel experience (required).

• Strong expertise in corporate, commercial, product, and privacy law.

• Proven ability to interpret contracts, identify risk, and communicate clearly to business stakeholders.

• Experience building legal playbooks and standardizing contract review processes.

• Comfort with AI-assisted legal workflows, or genuine enthusiasm for legal technology adoption.

• Exposure to venture capital, emerging companies, or early-stage startup environments is a plus.

• Solid grounding in professional responsibility and legal ethics.

• Thrives in fast-paced, high-ambiguity environments with a bias toward urgency and ownership.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary range: $150,000–$210,000 USD annually. Meaningful equity included. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

On-site in San Francisco, CA. Remote work is not available for this position.
