Since its founding in 1895 as a vocational school, Lick-Wilmerding High School has built upon a long tradition of valuing and integrating the liberal arts, sciences, technical arts, visual arts and performing arts to offer a robust college-prep curriculum. POSITION DESCRIPTION We are looking for candidates able to teach 4 sections of English and serve as an advisor to a group of approximately 12 students.  We seek thoughtful, collaborative, and passionate teachers who demonstrate a strong practice of and commitment to anti-racist and identity-inclusive pedagogy that supports students of all backgrounds to succeed academically, collaborate, and develop self-reflection tools for personal growth. We are also looking for genuine, kind colleagues and all-around "school people" who want to participate in and contribute to our vibrant community.  As an institution committed to educating the whole child, we both invite and expect teaching faculty to participate fully in the academic and co-curricular life of the school. This includes, but is not limited to, furthering the mission of the school through participating in our Advisory, Public Purpose, and DEI Programs; as well as routine attendance in all curricular team meetings, department meetings, faculty meetings, and office hours to support students when needed. QualificationsJOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS A preferred minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching students how to read, write, think and speak critically about literature and what it shows about the human experience Several years experience teaching at the high school level, particularly 9th and 11th grades Strong ability and experience with developing grade level curriculum in English Literature Experience successfully leading a grade-level team or chairing a department preferred but not required Demonstrated cultural competency in text selection, assignments, and student feedback and support and a commitment to equity and anti-racist instruction  Demonstrated experience with effectively scaffolding student learning, including differentiated instruction for students across various academic and social backgrounds A commitment to work collaboratively on a grade level team, as well as across disciplines Excellent oral and written communication skills SKILLS Ability to understand student needs at various stages of development to both support them and hold them accountable A willingness to engage across difference with empathy and understanding Social and emotional acuity  An understanding of your own identity and related positionalities The ability to nurture and encouragelife-long learning through joyful, authentic, and rich learning experiences  A profound openness to feedback and improvement, modeling lifelong learning of practice as well as subject area
