Let the Builders Build
Engineers are spending way too much of their time maintaining their systems, firefighting, and answering support tickets. By letting AI agents handle these tasks, we can free up engineers to focus on building. At TierZero, we believe engineers should spend 100% of their time dreaming and building the future.

We operate at the frontier of AI, systems, and observability, combining applied research with hardcore engineering.

If this excites you, let's talk.

The Role

As our founding product designer, you’ll help invent and build the core product experience from the ground up. You’ll work directly with the CEO, CTO, and engineering team, and spend real time with customers. This is not a polish role — design at TierZero is deeply intertwined with system behavior, trust, and operator judgment. Things change regularly, and here are examples of the types of work you’ll be doing:

  • Design core workflows and dashboards for AI agents that investigate incidents and production issues

  • Translate complex system behavior (confidence, uncertainty, provenance, partial results) into clear, trustworthy user experiences

  • Define guardrails and interaction patterns so automation is safe, reversible, and predictable

  • Partner tightly with engineers to shape product decisions, defaults, and failure modes — not just visuals

  • Design dense, high-signal interfaces for engineers operating under time pressure

  • Help define how humans supervise, correct, and collaborate with AI agents

  • Create interaction models for long-running, multi-step agent workflows (state, memory, async progress)

  • Iterate rapidly with customer feedback from real incidents and on-call scenarios

  • Contribute to everything from product direction to sales demos to onboarding flows to office snacks

Why work with us

  • You want to work with an experienced team. CEO is a 2x founder and infra leader with a previous successful exit; CTO spent a decade at Databricks leading AI engineering; team members are staff-level engineers from Databricks, Brex, LinkedIn, Niantic, Nextdoor, and 11x.

  • You believe that everything is “figureoutable.” You like ambiguous problems, tight feedback loops, and learning by building.

  • You’re excited to work at the frontier. You’ll be designing products that sit at the intersection of GenAI, observability, distributed systems, and real-time production environments.

  • You want to shape the company from day one. You’ll influence product direction, interaction paradigms, customer trust, and how design and engineering work together as we scale.

  • You believe the engineers of tomorrow are 100x more productive than the engineers of today — and that great design is a prerequisite to making that future safe and usable.

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, Vision insurance

  • 401(k)

  • Lunch & Dinner in the office

  • Snacks and drinks

  • M4 MacBook + iPad Air

  • Figma, FigJam, and a near-unlimited budget for tools that help you design and think better

Looking for someone who

  • Has a valid US Visa or work permit

  • Works in SF in person 3 days a week

  • 6+ years of experience as a product designer

  • Has designed complex systems, dashboards, or internal / operator-facing tools

  • Is comfortable with dense information, tradeoffs, and designing for failure modes

  • Thinks in workflows, states, and guardrails — not just screens

  • Is deeply product-minded and customer-first

  • Can collaborate tightly with senior engineers and challenge decisions when needed

  • Has worked at a startup before (or a high-bar product team) and survived
