Founding Product Engineer

About the Role

This is a founding engineering seat at an early-stage legal AI company, where you'll build core product features from the ground up alongside attorneys and AI engineers. You'll set the engineering culture and standards for everyone who follows, shipping software that transforms how legal work gets done in a fast-moving, high-ownership environment.

What You'll Do

• Build and own full-stack product features — from data models to the attorney- and client-facing interfaces used every day.

• Partner with AI engineers and attorneys to translate legal workflows and review playbooks into reliable, production-grade software.

• Make pragmatic architecture and tooling decisions that keep the team moving fast without creating long-term debt.

• Write maintainable code, build for reliability, and take complete ownership of what you ship in production.

• Help define engineering culture, standards, and hiring practices as the team scales.

• Work directly with domain experts to turn real legal judgment into software that ships fast and holds a high bar.

What We're Looking For

• 1–3 years of experience building and shipping production software, ideally at an early-stage company or as a founder.

• Strong full-stack ability: TypeScript/React on the front end, a modern backend stack, and relational databases.

• Hands-on experience building with AI/LLMs, either professionally or in personal projects.

• A track record of owning features end-to-end and making sound engineering trade-offs under pressure.

• Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to thrive in fast-moving, high-ownership environments with minimal process.

• Excellent judgment, clear communication, and a high personal bar for code quality.

• Product instincts and an entrepreneurial mindset — you think like an owner and move with urgency.

• Bonus: experience in legal tech, contract management, or document processing; familiarity with modern DevOps, CI/CD, and production monitoring.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $140,000 – $180,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

Location

This is a full-time, on-site role in San Francisco, CA. In-person attendance is expected.
