Position Summary :

Under direct supervision of the Assistant Executive Director of Marketing & Communications, the

Frontend Web Designer at Associated Students of SFSU is a student position focused on the visual

aesthetics and user interface of the AS website, ensuring a cohesive and engaging user experience. This

role involves implementing user research to develop intuitive user interfaces, creating engaging visuals,

and maintaining brand consistency across the website. The Frontend Web Designer collaborates closely

with the Backend Web Developer to ensure that visual designs are implemented effectively and function

seamlessly. Additionally, this role works with the Marketing & Communications team, particularly with

the Graphic Designers and the Design Coordinator, to align design initiatives with organizational goals

and strategies.

Job Description :

● Collaborate with the Backend Web Developer to implement user-centric design changes and

enhancements to the AS website

● Conducts user research & testing to guide web development

● Design intuitive user interfaces, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes for website updates

and new features

● Create visually appealing graphics, images, and multimedia elements to enhance website

content

● Ensure consistency and adherence to brand standards throughout all design projects

● Regularly communicate with the Backend Web Developer to discuss design considerations,

technical feasibility, and implementation strategies

● Work closely with the Design Coordinator to align web design initiatives with organizational

goals, strategies & campaigns

● Conduct research and stay informed about emerging design trends, tools, and technologies

● Collaborate with team members to gather feedback, iterate on web designs, and refine

solutions for AS Programs, Board of Directors, and Internal department pages

● Design & brand pages for AS Programs, Board of Directors resources, services,

departments, and information in a functional, user-friendly way to keep AS website updated

● Collaborating with Backend Web Developer to process Web Requests in an accurate and

timely manner

● Collaborate with Backend Web Developer to meet with, coordinate, strategize & present

larger-scale website updates to AS staff & admin, in collaboration with team & supervisor

Qualifications:

● Must be a currently enrolled SFSU student with a minimum of 6 units for undergraduates or

4 units for graduates in Fall 2024

● Experience with creating custom pages & posts in WordPress or another web building

platform (Elementor for Wordpress knowledge is a plus)

● Knowledge of prototyping tools such as Adobe XD & Figma

● Familiarity with web design principles, usability best practices, and user-centered design

methodologies

● Experience with Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop

● Some knowledge of Google Analytics & SEO

● Some knowledge of HTML & CSS

● Self-motivated, takes initiative, able to maintain strong working relationships

● Fast learner, well organized & detail oriented

● Ability to establish priorities and work independently
