Based in California, New York, and Florida, our physician-led teams work in concert with our gynecologists, Naturopathic Medicine Doctors, curated local specialists, elite medical centers, and leading specialists around the world to provide relationship-focused, evidence-based, longitudinal care to our members and their families. Private Medical is, by design, privately held and free from any conflicts of interest.

Job Overview
The Gynecology Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist will support our gynecologist and site clinical team in the San Francisco (Laurel Heights) office. You will practice in a personable, non-hospital environment that prioritizes exceptional, personalized gynecologic care and hospitality. Success is measured by quality, safety, and member experience—not speed or volume.

You will collaborate closely with the gynecologist to deliver the right gynecology care, at the right time, from the right team. Hospitality is a core job requirement and must be practiced consistently with patients and colleagues. The role is designed for operational flexibility to meet dynamic clinical and member needs while maintaining a consistent foundation across sites.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive, customized, and hospitality-forward gynecology care; demonstrate a genuine welcome, attentive listening, timely responses, and thoughtful anticipation of needs in all interactions.
  • Prepare patients and exam rooms for gynecology visits and procedures; chaperone exams and assist with in-office procedures within scope (for example: pelvic exams, Pap tests, IUD procedures, biopsies, and other common gynecologic procedures).
  • Perform blood draws, specimen collection, swabs, and related lab workflows within scope; maintain strict adherence to safety, infection control, and labeling standards.
  • Obtain and document relevant histories, vitals, and pre-visit information that supports gynecology care and longitudinal whole-person care.
  • Accurately document therapies, medications, procedures, and clinically relevant interactions in the electronic medical record in real time; ensure entries are complete, clear, and audit-ready.
  • Coordinate scheduling and logistics related to gynecology visits, including appointment booking, reminders, and efficient patient flow, in collaboration with the operations team.
  • Provide cross-coverage within the MA/phlebotomist scope during teammate PTO or leave; flex to support same-day appointment blocks and add-ons consistent with site coverage goals and schedules.
  • Communicate directly with members as needed, fostering trust, continuity, and reliability; promptly escalate clinical concerns to the gynecologist or nursing team.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Standards of Practice, Private Medical workflows, and tools; contribute to systems and structures that set teams up for success and operational reliability in gynecology.
  • Participate in a culture of continuous improvement: use data and feedback to inform decisions, identify bottlenecks, and suggest pragmatic workflow innovations within the gynecology program.
  • Collaborate across disciplines and, where applicable, with automated tools or systems, ensuring tasks are performed competently regardless of whether executed by people or automation.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in a gynecology or women’s health setting.
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Certified Phlebotomist (CPT I) required.
    • Medical Assistant certification (CMA or equivalent) preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with a demonstrated hospitality mindset and service orientation; alignment with Private Medical values, including compassionate care, a growth mindset, and continuous evolution.
  • Ability to work independently with sound clinical judgment while collaborating effectively within a team; adaptable to changing priorities to support coverage and member needs (operational flexibility).
  • Positive, proactive, and professional demeanor; strong organization and time management.
  • Immunization or proof of immunity required for MMR, Hepatitis B, and Tuberculosis.
  • Advanced computer literacy with proficiency in Apple products and EMR workflows.

Schedule and Coverage Expectations
Standard business hours coverage in the San Francisco (Laurel Heights) office, with flexibility to support same-day capacity, float coverage, and site needs so members receive the right care at the right time from the right team. Nursing and PCA coverage targets underpin scheduling and cross-coverage norms, with this role anchoring gynecology clinic reliability.

Competencies

  • Hospitality as a core value: Warm, professional engagement; personal recognition; anticipatory support; consistent sense of safety and comfort for members and colleagues in all gynecology interactions.
  • Operational flexibility: Adapts scheduling and responsibilities within scope to meet dynamic gynecology and site operational needs while safeguarding care quality and team well-being.
  • Data-informed and improvement-oriented: Uses data, feedback, and iteration to enhance reliability and reduce bottlenecks in gynecology workflows; embraces innovation that removes roadblocks.
  • Team and leadership enablement: Contributes to systems and structures that help teams thrive; collaborates constructively with Operations and clinical leadership per Private Medical role delineation.

Alignment with Private Medical’s Principles of Clinical Staffing

  • Anchor Private Medical’s vision to deliver the right care, at the right time, by the right team, through reliable gynecology coverage, hospitality-forward interactions, and safe, competent clinical work.
  • Expands the range of role profiles and flexes responsibly to support demand, preserving a consistent foundation across sites while honoring local gynecology needs.
  • Practices hospitality as a defined requirement and participates in continuous improvement informed by data and feedback within the gynecology program and broader practice.
