§1 — TLDR.
Hivemind is a social AI that has one-on-one conversations with many people at once. It exists to answer the universal human question: what do people really think about ______? Everyone holds a fragment of the truth; Hivemind talks to everyone and pieces it together at a resolution no single person can.
We're looking for founding members of technical staff: engineers who will co-own Hivemind's technical foundation from day zero and help define our taste in people as the team grows.
§2 — Why You Should Care.
Social intelligence is a frontier problem across product, engineering, and research. And the challenges compound as we scale from hundreds of users to hundreds of thousands… and beyond. If you like thinking from first principles to invent something without precedent, you'd have fun with this problem space.
The current team (ex-Apple, ex-Midjourney) is design and research focused, so as one of the first full-time engineers you'll define Hivemind's technical foundations. You'll also shape product direction and co-author original research in social and collective intelligence alongside the best in both.
We're backed by First Round Capital, with angels including Biz Stone (Twitter), Tobi Lütke (Shopify), Evan Sharp (Pinterest), Ari Weinstein (OpenAI) and others.
§3 — What You'll Do.
Build fast, efficient infrastructure that enables social interaction across a large volume of users across the globe.
Build the sourcing engine at Hivemind's core: out of thousands of people, figuring out who to ask, when, and how, so that they actually answer.
Build and scale systems that learn continually from many users' feedback in real time.
Ship within hard, interesting constraints: Hivemind lives in iMessage, and real-time social intelligence has to feel alive at any scale.
Own context management, model orchestration, and systems that let one AI reason across a fractal network of relationships.
Work across backend, AI infra, data, and devops as the work demand, going from idea to production in days, with attention to craftsmanship, quality, and reliability.
§4 — Who You Are.
You write excellent code, take pride in the work being yours, and would rather own a large ambiguous problem end to end than execute a spec someone else wrote.
You've shipped and scaled robust, reliable systems, and you're comfortable owning backend and infra outright.
You have production experience with distributed systems or AI infrastructure.
You've built social products, think in network effects and product outcomes.
You've worked on scrappy, early teams or were a founder in a past life, so you value the collision between vision and reality we call "shipping."
You have a secure sense of self: you'll tell us we're wrong because you believe it, and change your mind only when actually convinced.
You're fearless inside your craft and a good student outside it. Either way, you have the resourcefulness to figure it out.
Most importantly… you want what you build to matter.
