 Under general supervisionof the Medical Director and Neurology Nurse manager, guided by the policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the physician staff, the Clinical Nurse (CN) performs established nursing procedures using clinical knowledge to care for patients in a case manager model of care. The nurse provides excellent clinical care, telephone advice, and patient education to the Neurology patients. The CN will comply with the Medical Center house and Telephone Standards.

The CN is accountable for his/her own practice and has primary responsibility for utilizing nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe patient care in the outpatient clinical setting. S/he carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required and performs nursing care for patients with complex needs. CN is recognized as a leader and clinical resource and demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the practice and organization. CN serves as resource for all clinical staff and initiates and participates in patient and staff education. 

The Clinical Nurse must have the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and work well with staff, patients, and providers.  A high degree of independence, initiative, assertiveness, and diplomacy are necessary in dealing with faculty, staff, and patients in a complex environment.  S/he works with physician leadership in setting and accomplishing annual goals.  S/he works with staff to develop, monitor and maintain systems pertaining to all aspects of nursing care for the practice.  The clinical nurse ensures a safe environment for patients and staff.  The clinical nurse is responsible for providing direct nursing care to patients in the Clinic. Duties include but not limited to, triage of phone calls, completing the requested tasks in APeX messages, reconstitution of medications and GI clinic procedures.  The clinical nurse provides education to patients regarding their illnesses and education for procedure preparation and procedure related questions and education regarding patient medications. The nurse responds to patient questions regarding medication doses and side effects; he/she informs patients about normal/routine pathology and laboratory results, performs injections, teaching of injectable medications;; facilitates completion of disability forms, work letters and will assist the faculty and staff in securing authorizations for tests and treatments
