About Echelon

Echelon is building the AI platform for Business Operations. Our goal is to automate the knowledge work of BizOps so one exceptional operator can deliver the leverage of an entire team, as Ramp and Rippling have done for Finance and HR.

Our platform combines passive process mining with a living ontology that maps how work happens across people, systems, documents, decisions, and outcomes. It connects structured and unstructured data trapped in fragmented, duplicative, and legacy enterprise systems, then turns that context into automated workflows and AI agents.

We are an early-stage company tackling a difficult technical problem at high speed. Engineers work directly with founders and customers, make decisions with incomplete information, ship production systems, and own the results. The pace, rate of change, and standards are high.

The mandate

Take ambiguous customer problems from conversation to production software across the frontend, APIs, data model, workflows, and AI interactions. We need an early-stage builder who ships quickly, makes sound tradeoffs, and operates what they build.

What you'll own

  • Ship 0-to-1 product capabilities across React, TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, and asynchronous workflows.

  • Build clear experiences for exploring processes, relationships, evidence, recommendations, and automated work.

  • Design secure multi-tenant APIs, data models, and migrations.

  • Build agent workflows with tool execution, retrieval, document processing, streaming, and human review.

  • Strengthen shared primitives for authorization, background jobs, storage, observability, and integrations.

  • Work directly with customers to understand operational problems, test assumptions, and iterate in production.

  • Own production performance, failures, and recovery for the systems you ship.

  • Set a high engineering bar through focused tests, direct review, and simple durable architecture.

What you bring

  • 4+ years building production software, including proven 0-to-1 delivery at an early-stage company or similarly ambiguous environment.

  • Experience shipping with limited process, shifting requirements, and direct customer input.

  • Strong TypeScript, React, and backend service development in Node.js or a similar environment.

  • Strong SQL and relational data modeling, including safe schema changes and performance debugging.

  • Experience with distributed jobs, retries, idempotency, and external APIs.

  • Strong instincts for security, tenant isolation, and least privilege.

  • Product judgment: you can simplify a workflow, challenge a requirement, and decide what should not be built.

  • Comfort with a high rate of change, direct feedback, and full accountability for outcomes.

Useful experience

  • AI agents, tool calling, RAG, vector search, evaluation, or sandboxed execution.

  • AWS, Kubernetes, Helm, S3, RDS, or customer-managed deployments.

  • Inngest, Temporal, WorkOS, OpenAPI, or typed ORMs such as Drizzle.

  • Enterprise operational data across finance, people, contracts, projects, or collaboration systems.

  • Complex data visualization, graph interfaces, collaborative editors, or workflow builders.

Benefits

  • Fully covered health, dental, and vision insurance.

  • 401(k) plan.

  • Team lunches and dinners in the office.

  • Unlimited PTO.
